SLO County public health update

County public health officials report that local school children began receiving the H1N1 vaccine last week. Two school sites per day held clinics and by Friday, 1200 K-6 students were estimated to have received the vaccine. Plans call for five school sites to be visited per day this week, pending adequate vaccine supplies.
As of last Friday, there were 153 confirmed cases of the H1N1 (swine flu) virus confirmed in the county, with 30 hospitalizations and 1 death. Statewide, there have been 4820 hospitalized cases and 266 deaths.
Public Health spokesperson Michelle Shoresman reminds county residents that there are currently no vaccines available at public health department sites. A 24 hour Information Line has been established at 805.788.2903.
