Kathy Smith attempts return to San Luis city council
June 25, 2010
A former San Luis Obispo city councilwoman who resigned from office in 1998 to move out of state, has decided to seek her old spot in November.
Kathy Springer Smith filed a Candidate Intention Statement with city officials this week. “We face difficult times in SLO, but we have the dedicated citizens to make the best of our challenges and opportunities,” Smith wrote in an email sent to friends and supporters.
Smith, formerly co-owner of the Garden Street Inn, was first appointed to the City Council in 1994. She won re-election in 1996, but announced her resignation one year later to move to Columbus, Ohio for a new nonprofit position. Smith eventually returned to San Luis Obispo.
Cal Poly professor Richard Kranzdorf and Wilda Rosene are serving as co-chairs of Smith’s upcoming campaign.
