Parkinson tied to phony mailer

June 4, 2010

Members of the Democratic Central Committee contend Ian Parkinson’s campaign is trying to influence the vote by sending out phony mailers in an attempt to give the false impression Parkinson has the Democratic Party endorsement. [NewTimes]

A campaign consulting firm hired by Parkinson sent out the slate mailers to registered Democrats in the 2nd and 3rd supervisorial districts that recommend “the best choices for San Luis Obispo Democrats.” Along with a group of democratic candidates the mailer urges Democrats to vote for Republican Ian Parkinson for sheriff.

There are six Republicans vying for the non-partisan sheriff’s office and members of the Democratic Central Committee (DCC) said they have not endorsed any of them.

“The mailer was sent out under the name “Democratic Voters of the Central Coast” in an apparent attempt to make Democratic voters believe that it was an official party mailer endorsing Ian Parkinson for sheriff,” said DDC member John Barta. “Members of the Democratic Central Committee are upset that a campaign consultant for a Republican candidate would attempt to influence the future makeup of the Democratic Central Committee by endorsing some Democratic committee candidates and not others on the phony mailer.”

The mailer was paid for by Public Policy Solutions, a firm run by Parkinson’s campaign consultant Cory Black. The mailer was sent out by Democratic Voters of the Central Coast, a group that lists the same phone number as Cory Black’s consulting firm.

In response to the mailer, DCC member Pepper Hughes sent a formal complaint to the enforcement division of the Fair Political Practice Commission in Sacramento.

I saw the flyer and if it is not in-fact endorsed by the Democratic Party, then it is clearly misleading. Each candidate is expected to run a fair and truthful campaign and is solely responsible for the actions of their election committee. Parkinson has let us down, yet again. Regarding the Cortez ads on CCN: The candidate that I am endorsing could have bought the same space and it is probably not too late for Parkinson to spend some more of his riches to advertise with them as well. Frankly, I regret not thinking about advertising here and donating the cost to the Lenthall campaign.

Wait4it: Perhaps it’s your turn to provide some facts rather than merely attacking and questioning every one else’s opinion. That seems to be your pattern in many of these blogs which do not supporting your candidate.

I’m not calling myself a “reporter” unlike the charlatans posting fairy tales on this blog.

Wait4It. This story appears under daily briefs. This is not an investigative article, it is a “BRIEF”. A daily brief means exactly what it say’s, it’s brief. Karen has simply wrote a quick over view and pointed everyone to the article at the New Times. Parkinsons consulting firm id actually responsible for producing, distributing and paying for this mailer. PHONY MAILER. Nothing here is misrepresented. For the details go to New Times.

Sorry that you got caught with a dirty diaper. Nobody here is going to wipe your sorry butt.

Thanks for your clever poopie metaphor, but to get back to something relevant, do you think Karen should correct this “Brief” since she’s incorrectly written that “The mailer was paid for by Public Policy Solutions, a firm run by Parkinson’s campaign consultant Cory Black,” when, according to the NT article she “pointed to” as you wrote, “The mailer was paid for by the Democratic Voters of the Central Coast”?

It’s not much fun sparring with you, you are without any substance. Can you come up with something of interest we can fiddle with, or have you shot your silly wad on nothing?

Not one person here has claimed to be a reporter and you have not demonstrated sufficient skills to hold such a job. You are acting like an attorney who has no defense so you attack the witnesses. Are you Ian’s brother? You are welcome to support your position with facts but the constant attacks are getting rather boring.

I though Karen claimed to be a reporter. Am I wrong? It’s her “stories” that I’m questioning….that and your gullibility.

Your memory is as poor as Ian’s. You said”…myself a “reporter” unlike the charlatans posting fairy tales on this blog.” Karen, the real reported posted the story in a “brief” format and all of us that you keep attacking are the blog. Seriously, get some help.

Wasn’t Cory Black the person who ran Bruce Gibson’s campaign last time?

Interesting that you keep chasing after Parkinson for whatever but yet your website has ads for Joe Cortez. I smell a little bias here. Wonder what is next. Oh, we have the weekend, sure there will be some sort of dirt dug up before Tuesday. Come on Cal Coast, you can do it!

Mad Hatter, I just accidentally gave you an approval. Anyone can purchase advertising on this web site and in case you didn’t notice, it was the NT that broke the latest Parkinson scandal open, not CCN.

Parkinson is unethical and here he is again, trying to tell us that he didn’t know. He’s like a smoldering cesspool where his crap just never stops breaking the surface and polluting the air. Don’t worry, we know the TT won’t tell anyone the truth. I’m sure they’ll be doing all they can to cover this up and provide him with more glowing editorials.

As usual Cindy, you write before you think.

Cindy, I could care less what rating you give me. I just find it Hypercritical that this site can’t wait to dig up dirt on whomever they target, then they post ads promoting someone. If your going to go after people in the media, then stay neutral. Don’t post one thing on a website, then go on the air and say something totally different. I do take exception to the games Karen, Dave and the rest of the yahoo’s on this site play. And one last thing, I will mark you down since you reminded me. Have a nice day.

Sheesh, you agendized people in the media keep lambasting Parkinson with the truth …

:wink

Ian is looking more and more uncomfortable as this unfolds. He obviously did not get a black belt in ethics.

Cory Black is a member of the Atascadero Democratic Club, is publicity chair and was vice-president of the club last year. He is a contact person for John Laird who is running on the Democratic ticket for Moldonado’s senate seat.

The voter guide cherry picked certain candidates for the DCC and omitted names that Black perceives to be trouble makers – read smart, informed and attuned like John Barta – to snakes in the grass.

Not confirmed yet but Black is probably getting money from Zacharia’s campaign.

Now wait just a doggone minute — our current sheriff has shown that one of the chief qualifiers is an ability to bend truth and pull shenanigans just like this so I’m thinking Ian Parkingzone has what it takes to follow in the mis-guided footsteps of Big Bad Pat.

Problem is, you’re not thinking…not with your head anyway. You’re thinking is being controlled by your emotions. This “story” got the facts wrong. Do you dispute that? Compare this “story” with the NT article.

Rather than face the facts, you’re willing to believe whatever is written on this website, even when it’s written anonymously.

Well Wait, Ian, Jerry or whoever you are. The so called ‘facts’ might be a little confusing but here are some facts that should not be disputed. The confusing nature of the slate ballot (done by Ian, Jerry, the crooks for Prop 16) is designed to confuse and distort. That is a fact. According to Mr. Barta of M Bay Ian was told two weeks ago about this sleaze, nothing was done about it. Ian claims ignorance and then admits he did pay to get on some ballots but maintains a fuzzy headed recollection of these things. Like I said, he is a crook or incompetent. Can’t remember if he paid his taxes, can’t remember if he attempted to subvert the democratic process. Can’t remember if he has adequate education for his present or sought after position.

And since you have tried to evade the issue here by accusing CCN of inaccurate reporting (same lame tactic others have tried in the past) I remind you CCN has never been proved wrong by any credible source. They almost always scoop all other media.

Vote for Cortez, an honest and honorable man.

You’re just slinging mud around as usual hoping something sticks, but it’s all sticking to you instead.

“CCN has never been proved wrong…”? What a laugh that is. Can you even answer the following question:

CCN: “…The mailer was paid for by Public Policy Solutions, a firm run by Parkinson’s campaign consultant Cory Black….”

NT: “The mailer was paid for by the Democratic Voters of the Central Coast, a group that came into existence after filing a statement of organization on April 23…”

Which one got it right?

Man, what’s your beef with Parkenson?

I can spell his name right and I had no beef until he starting talking (lying) and campaigning (cheating), now I see he is no good. I guess there are some out there who think cheating the voters out of their right to make clear and informed choices is OK; I don’t, never will.

So who got it right on the mailer – CCN or NT? You just can’t go there can you?

Do you seriously think that spelling his name correctly is more important than accurately reporting the facts?

Oh go stuff it and quit playing with semantics.

Bottom line is that his PR firm opened a front organization in the name of “Democratic Voters of the Central Coast”, then they used it to send out a mailer and they ran Parkinson’s money through this “phony shell” and paid for the mailer.

OK. Now if you want to argue about who paid for it, be my guest. The check came from and was signed by PPS, Inc officials with the name of “Democratic Voters of the Central Coast” on it.

Gee, This sounds sooooooo Tommy Bordonaro!

Ah, the “stuff it” argument. Good call Cindy.

But I’m interested, you wrote that “his PR firm opened a front organization in the name of “Democratic Voters of the Central Coast”, then they used it to send out a mailer and they ran Parkinson’s money through this “phony shell” and paid for the mailer….The check came from and was signed by PPS, Inc officials with the name of “Democratic Voters of the Central Coast” on it.”

This speculation is not in either the NT story or this blog, so where did you get your information?

Oh, wait a minute, that’s right – “stuff it” – you don’t need no stinkin’ facts.

Cindy’s right, the troll is wrong.

“…The mailer was paid for by Public Policy Solutions, a firm run by Parkinson’s campaign consultant Cory Black….”

That’s not what the New Times story you linked to states. It says this: “The mailer was paid for by the Democratic Voters of the Central Coast, a group that came into existence after filing a statement of organization on April 23. The filing lists a Kristina Calkins as the committee’s principal officer, yet the phone number listed for the group is the same as that of Public Policy Solutions, Inc.—the political consulting group employed by the Parkinson for Sheriff campaign.”

Once again, you have your facts wrong…pretty reckless.

And speaking of reckless…hotdog, where do you get this: “Since none of the others on the ballot paid for it then Parkinson must have footed the bill and known all along.” That’s a stretch…even for you. Where do you get your logic?

I just went by the address listed on the bogus slate ballot, its a UPS store on Broad in SLO. Fly by night operators who will do anything for a buck. Since none of the others on the ballot paid for it then Parkinson must have footed the bill and known all along. A caller to the Congalton show yesterday on this issue said he told Ian about this assault on democracy two weeks ago-he has done nothing to rectify it.

I say Ian is a crook, or incompetent. Not fit to even retain his present position. These dirty tactics should be condemned by all.

All the sheriff candidates signed a form pledging honest and open campaigns, filed with the county clerk. Ian either lied or has a rogue campaign committee-either way he is unfit for office. I wish I were his chief-I’d send him packing…
