Cal Poly student arrested for dealing drugs to teens

September 22, 2010

Quinn Hall

A Cal Poly freshman was arrested for allegedly selling a psychoactive stimulant to two teenagers who became violently ill from the drug.

Experiencing symptoms that included a sore throat, violent vomiting, euphoria and elevated body temperatures, the two 15-year-old Templeton boys were taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital where they were treated for Mephedrone ingestion on Sept.11.

Sheriff deputies arrested Quinn Alister Hall, 18, of Templeton for selling the drugs to the teenagers. He allegedly told the Templeton boys the drug was similar to ecstasy.

Mephedrone comes in a fine white to off white powder form that can be mixed in liquid, injected or inhaled and may come in tablet or capsule form. The drug is fairly new to the United States.

It is believed to cause small holes to appear in the lungs and can also result in an embolism, sheriff officials said.

Hall was in possession of over two pounds of Mephedrone when he was arrested and charged with child endangerment and sales of a controlled substance on Sept. 21.

Hall was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail and released on $100,000 bail.

Deputies are asking parents to talk to their children about this drug and its potentially harmful effects.

I am honestly amazed by this comment. Yes, Quinn did have several run in’s with the police prior to this arrest but just because you have a child attending Templeton schools that may or may not know Quinn, do not act as if you know anything about these run ins or what prompted them. You say Quinn had a long history with alcohol and drug use, but do you really know that or are you just guessing based on what knowledge  you have gained about Quinn through gossip and hear-say. Besides, even if Quinn had been using drugs or alcohol, does that automatically make him a bad person? How many teenagers do you know that haven’t at least tried one of the two? I would not be surprised if your own child has some sort of history with drugs and alcohol. I simply can’t believe you would say that Quinn’s parents have ‘trouble with alcohol’. You obviously know nothing of his home life or family situation and that is extremely puerile of you to make such an assumption and then state it as if it is a fact. I doubt you have ever even met Quinn’s parents and yet you are ready to sit there and call them alcoholics? Don’t be so ignorant. Quinn’s parents are fantastic people and have done there best to raise good children. They are not to blame for Quinn’s actions. “Now he’s an adult soliciting money from our children and coaxing them to take dangerous drugs”. Really? You act as if Quinn went looking for these kids and convinced them to buy his drugs when obviously this is not what happened. Those kids found Quinn because THEY WANTED the drugs, there was no coaxing necessary. Do you not think that maybe the children who bought the drugs need to take some responsibility? It was their choice after all, they were not forced. Quinn also does not sell specialty pipes nor are there any pictures on his Facebook where he is smoking from a bong. Next time you should make sure you have your facts straight before posting a comment.

You are riding on a bunch of gosip=I’m sure your family has issues that when hung out on the public laundry line would make you seem equally messed up! They are caring and responsible people/parents-perhaps they should have dug around Quinn’s room to know what was going on more-they trusted their son-Does that make them alcoholics!?

Plenty of kids busted for this and a–holes like you don’t go after the parents-He was 19!!!!

He is one of the brightest kids around but obviously bored and needs more to keep himself in positive territory-Now hes locked up-no excuse for selling drugs-but lay off and at least root for him to get better-Comes around goes around TDAZE-mark my words…even great parents have kids that screw up! Lay off this family!!!!!

Again I am amazed at your ignorance. You know nothing of Quinn or his family and shouldn’t talk as if you do. It is rude and unnecessary for you to spread around completely false facts that you have may heard. I will repeat that Quinn’s parents are by no means alcoholics. No where near, in fact. It’s just ridiculous that you would even consider saying such a thing without being totally sure you were correct.

Obviously Quinn made a mistake by selling to those kids, i’m not going to deny that. But I also will not pity the boys who bought it from him for one second. They knew what they were buying, and they chose to ingest an extremely unsafe quantity of it. Quinn may have been the supplier, but it was their own stupid choice that caused them to end up in the hospital.

And finally, I really simply don’t understand why you would waste your time leaving some rude, bogus comment on this article. You have very little to do with this situation other than that you have heard Quinn’s name around. Yet you take the time to spread gossip? It makes me sad that there are so many people like you in this world. You really should spend your time doing more important things and not get yourself involved in situations you know nothing about.

Wow, I just did a Google search on Mephedrone and found dozens of sites where you could buy the stuff (as a “research drug” or “plant fertilizer”) from overseas places like Cameroon and China and have it shipped to you, no questions asked. Not to make excuses for Quinn, but if they make it THAT easy, is it so surprising that some would be tempted? It seems to me that these “designer” drugs are getting out of control — they are coming up with new (and not fully illegal) ones faster than our legal system can keep up.

Why the thumbs down? I wasn’t saying it was GOOD thing that this stuff is so was to get over the internet –it is a very scary thing. I don’t know this kid — some posts say he is smart — but maybe he thought if you could buy it online so easily it was legal? Then again, maybe not. Just saying it seems way too easy to buy this stuff, maybe something should be done about that.

If that little punk had sold my kids drugs, I’d be the one going to prison when I was finished with him.

PaulJones:

I am with you 100%, though my earlier comment got deleted for I am not as articulate as you.

1) One can hope Hall runs into parents of teenagers while he is in the system, and they straighten him out a little.

2) You’re not going to like this part: A sale of anything typically involves two parties acting in what they perceive as their own best interests. What I am trying to say is that the other side of the coin is that the kids BOUGHT the dope, so we cannot blame Hall exclusively.

seriously “PaulJones”? who do you think you are. if your kids are stupid enough to buy drugs in the first place it has nothing to do with quinn.

Regardless of the legal status, let’s get real here. This boy isn’t some Amway salesperson selling to underage kids, besides didn’t charge state or county sales tax!!… and he needs to pay the price.

I don’t know his family, but ‘good’ may not describe the reality. He looks like a dweeb.

Humm, I never heard of this drug Mephedrone. I looked it up on Wiki and I have to agree with tomjones when he mentions the fear-mongering efforts surrounding the following statement:

“It is believed to cause small holes to appear in the lungs and can also result in an embolism, sheriff officials said.” I didn’t see that anywhere in the literature.

Bottom line is that it’s a drug and it obviously made some kids very sick. Young Quinn, you really messed up. If one of these kids had health problems that you might not have known about and died from this drug or complications you would be going to prison. Wise up, there are many options available to you, selling drugs IS NOT AN OPTION.

Well put.

Back in the day a younger person smoking a joint, dropping a tab or sneaking a drink of dads booze was common practice and it didn’t hurt anyone but the user. Dealing drugs to kids is not the same thing. This guy is a criminal who wanted to profit at the expense of others. Get a job you jerk…

This is a nice family-Hope he turns it around…got ya’ll in my thoughts…

Why are people giving utube the red? Don’t you think nice families have these problems? Don’t you want to see Quinn Hall turn this around?

Cindy-White collar criminals are citizens of the year in north county-The good ol boys club-well even children of those crooks and their cronies have drug problems…Most are able to buy their way out-Connections to the DA and the judges …$$$ But Rooting for someone’s child to fail and suffer more than they already are is plain evil-Even for the families that are not so nice!-ALWAYS root for the kids…What a bunch of vultures! And Roger-….Since you don’t know the family-cork it!

Get your drugs straight…this article calls the drug Mephedrone in some parts and Methadone in other parts…which is it? Two very different drugs. And it’s always nice to see the Sheriff Department chime in with it’s usual fear-mongering baseless rhetoric…”believed to cause small holes in the lungs”…sounds very urban legend-ish to me. But nevermind that your article contains errors and quotes a source known to be full of BS time and again…you got that story out first!
