San Luis Obispo County’s unemployment rate rises

The jobless rate in San Luis Obispo County rose from 10 percent in December to 10.3 percent in January, according to a report released Friday by the California Employment Development Department.
The rate is higher than the national average of 9.4 percent and below the state’s 12.4 percent rate, both which fell in January.
Last month, state education positions fell by 1,100 in San Luis Obispo County. Private sector jobs in hospitality, transportation, finance and retail sectors also declined during January.
Local government employee numbers grew by 23 percent from December to January with an increase of approximately 2,000 jobs.

Pismo Beach 10.5 percent
San Luis Obispo 11.3 percent
San Miguel CDP 11.1 percent
