Lois Capps running for reelection

July 29, 2011

Congresswoman Lois Capps announced on Friday, after the adoption of final congressional district lines by the California Redistricting Commission, that she plans to run for reelection.

“I am pleased to announce that I will be running for election to the 24th congressional district to represent the people of the Central Coast in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“The new 24th district is comprised of a wonderfully diverse array of communities, from coastal communities like Cambria, Santa Barbara and Carpinteria, to vital agricultural centers such as Paso Robles, Santa Maria and the Santa Ynez Valley, and important centers of education, military and high tech like San Luis Obispo, Vandenberg Air Force Base and Goleta. I am very excited to have the opportunity to once again represent the hardworking people of these wonderful communities.

“Our country faces many challenges today and the people of the Central Coast know that we all need to come together to meet them. I have a record of accomplishment that I believe reflects the common sense values of the Central Coast and I always work hard to put achieving solutions above partisan concerns.

“Right now, I am focused on the job my constituents have elected me to do – like getting our economy fully restarted and creating jobs, protecting Medicare and Social Security from those who want to want to privatize them, and improving our children’s education opportunities and moving our country to a clean energy future. But at the appropriate time I will once again run a strong, positive grassroots campaign that focuses on the issues.

“Finally, I appreciate the time and effort of the Commissioners to complete the laborious effort of drafting the new lines for Congressional districts. The people of California owe them a debt of gratitude for their perseverance in completing this difficult task.”

There is no way to get around it. Lois Capps has a serious, serious problem with her new district. My hat is off to her for giving it a try to be re-elected given the boundaries of her new district. Her old district hugs the coastline from Oxnard to north of the SLO/Monterey County line, moving inland only twice to grab Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo.

Here is the old voting district map whose voters kept electing her:

Here is the new voting district map she has to contend with, a very different story:

There are already actual news stories and events, why this base attempt to “stir the pot” of ideologues? I appreciate CCN’s coverage, of course, but every time there is a political story, the same cadre of people come out and yell at each other.

It’s pathetic, and I often just move on to a more news-worthy piece.

Next.

rOy

Good point roy

It is causual attention not accidential with their own re-election in mind.

The President just signs or vetos, all that has been and is are bi-products of congress.

They are all actually superficial buddies you know , all playing the same act and games.

If that was true, “rOy”, you should have “moved on” long ago.

Funny, your usual comments epitomize so much of what you claim to despise in the comments of others. I guess you simply can’t help yourself.

Lois Capps announcing a run for re-election is not unexpected, but it is nevertheless worthy news.

Besides, Lois Capps ROCKS!

Lois Capps has done NOTHING about the following things:

How could Lois Capps, who has pledged her devotion to the Constitution, reconcile the following violations of the Constitution that are destroying America? When will it end?

■For decades, our Government has been meddling in the internal affairs of other countries, without any Constitutional authority, causing foreign nationals to direct their hostilities towards us, which has given us a War on Terror and a growing Police State that is repugnant to the Fourth Amendment and the General Welfare of a Free People;

■For decades, we have had undeclared wars in violation of the War Powers clauses of Articles I and II;

■We are now gifting and lending public money and credit to private corporations for decidedly private purposes (corporate welfare), without any constitutional authority, whatsoever;

■We have a fiat currency, in violation of the money clauses of Article I;

■We have been emitting trillions of dollars worth of Bills of Credit through or under the auspices of the Federal Reserve System in violation of Article I;

■We have been incurring trillions of dollars worth of debt for the payment of expenditures for programs and activities that are not enumerated in Article I, and therefore not authorized;

■We have a fraudulently ratified 16th Amendment in violation of Article V, a direct, un-apportioned tax on labor in violation of the tax clauses of Article I, and a judicial system that refuses to consider the evidence, in violation of Article III;

■For decades we have had unenforced immigration laws in violation of that mandate, plainly-worded in Article II, that requires the President to “faithfully execute” all the laws passed by Congress;

■We have a President who apparently is not a natural born citizen, a violation of Article II;

■We are counting our votes in secret, as all machines do, in violation of our constitutional right not only to vote but to know that our votes are being accurately counted;

■We have an absence of well-regulated state militias, and we have federal gun control laws, all in violation of the Second Amendment;

■For decades, in violation of the sovereignty clauses of the Declaration of Independence, the United States has been entering into treaties, contracts and relationships with foreign entities, and giving authority to international bodies, dissipating, destroying and undermining America’s sovereignty;

■We have private land being taken for private purposes in violation of the Fifth Amendment.

■We have a Government about to become a provider of Health Care, and about to order the People to purchase a product, powers that are not enumerated in Article I, and therefore not authorized.

■We have money bills originating in the Senate, in violation of Article I.

■We have a Senate that is using a supermajority vote to decide whether to enact a law, without an amendment to the Constitution, all in violation of Article I, Sections 3 and 5, and Article 5.

These violations have challenged the Constitutional Republic of the United States and Her People to Its core.

Above all, we have government officials who, for fourteen years, and more, have refused to honor their fundamental obligation to respond to the People’s First Amendment Petitions to Redress these violations. I call this the “capstone grievance.”

Unfortunality the voters in Capps district are tree huggers like herself or trust funders or collage kids that vote the way their liberal professors do, this woman has done nothing for us, we the people that work in this country, she votes against any thing that would do some good for the working class, of which she no longer is, instead she votes for give away programs, giving amnistey to illegals and food stamps, send these people home where they belong, if she wanted to do something for this country she would make this a priorty to work on, but who would mop her floors.

I so hope that she looses her seat this next go around.

“Myself”, your fear-based, negative attitudes are likely doing much more to hamper your pursuit of life, liberty and happiness than anything any congressional representative has done or will do. Consider not acting and thinking like a “victim” and start taking more responsibility for your lot in life. Government isn’t there to solve all your personal problems.

I don’t understand where victim comes in to the discussion. Capps is a socialist that believes in big government solving the personal problems that self reliant people do for themselves.

Nice to hear she was happy with the hard work of the redistricting commission. I think we only have 3 now LA, SF, Everywhere else

You can vote for fancy looks and appearances

You can vote for the most empressive talkers

You can vote for the most affluent or established politicians

No matter what, it will be the SOS again and all of you registered voters know that.

As for the younger voters who believe they are in the know, they will figure the game out when they get older.

Lois is NOT a politician, just simply a SLO Hometown gal, like one of us.

I encourage Lois to run if her health is well, the vote will decide.

She is a horrible rep. She needs to go and give someone else a try. Her time in congress has been a disaster. Seems like she has gotten use to living the fat cat life in washington and just cant give it up! Must be nice to have the best health care in the country and all the other perks they get while the rest of us bust our ass to make a living!

Oh happy day…

She had said she would not run after stepping into her hubbies shoes, but we all saw how honest a person she turned out to be…

but we all saw how honest a person she turned out to be… and the shallowness of her detractors.

whats next ? show a birth certificate? sign a pledge?

Hater dude, you are really loud about issuing vacuous insults, but would you mind presenting us with even a slight shred of reality or fact to substantiate any of your wild, inflammatory, hateful accusations?

Lois Capps is the BEST congressional representative, besides her husband, that her district has experienced in decades. But perhaps YOU don’t appreciate integrity. But those who continue to vote for Capps certainly do.

Lois Capps re-election has always been according to the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. Its a gift that she continues to re-enlist to serve her nation and her district.

Every politician should be allowed to change their mind when new information or experience shows that a new direction will be of benefit to his or her constituents. The constituents then decide, at the ballot box, if the new direction was warranted. In Lois Capps case, it certainly was. I appreciate her wisdom for that and many other decisions she has made that her opponents fearful and hateful.

Lois Capps ROCKS!

Like her “ribbon of shame” district had nothing to do with her reelection.

42 to 9. Guess the public doesn’t agree with you, WiseGuy. Isn’t that too bad? Nothing like getting a thorough butt kicking on an issue.

No brag or debate here, just “fact.”

She needs to go and give someone else a try please make sense instead of noise. If the Republicans run someone who actually makes sense then I seriously consider VOTEing for that person, I think Lois would be in favor of extending medicare to everyone if asked. you sound like a typical victim here they get while the rest of us this is not a they vs us issue Lois can only represent you if you let her know what your concerns actually are , you should be thankful that we have an authentic person representing us hope the opposition comes up with someone as attractive and approachable as Lois Capps. Medicare for all.

How about a 50% cut in your social security so we could pay for Medicare for all? I don’t even think that would pay for it. There is no free lunch. Even the communists were forced to work in co-ops.

There are a lot of rich and powerful candidates who are already spending money to degrade her.

We all bust our ass trying to make a living!

Most great candidate you vote for ain’t gonna give a “S” about any of you after they are elected, so what does it matter, you will have already served their main purpose.

Karl Rove took time away from his make the Swedish PM the Ronald Reagan of Europe to work on this attempt to defeat Lois Capps, be afraid very afraud .

We all bust our ass trying to make a living!

Her opposition is already spending big bucks to degrade her.

Most other great candidate you vote for ain’t gonna give a “S” about any of you after they are elected, so what does it matter, you will have already served their purpose.

And the SOS continues.

They better care in what they do. They are up for election every two years. Now that the district is no longer the “ribbon of shame” whoever is elected will support the entire district much better.

Oh yeah, we need more slick Kevin McCarthy types,,,,,,,,,no thanks I’ll take someone honest that’s not a slick fake politician.

get ready for honest “Abe” Abel Maldonado

One of the worse displays by a politician that I’ve seen was Maldonodo debating Capps. He was a hot headed low life jerk. I was so turned off by how rude he was to Capps, really really nasty. She was being polite and answering the questions while he just constantly attacked and yelled. Maybe while working for Arnie he managed to McCarthy up and slick up his style.
