Questions of safety at Diablo Canyon nuclear plant

July 17, 2011

After the devastating tsunami damage to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan, seismologists in the United States are focusing on a potentially dangerous fault system near the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in California. State Sen. Sam Blakeslee, R-San Luis Obispo, voices his concerns to PBS.

Oh please…

This is just a sop to those who love our energy dependance on foreign oil… Senator Blakeslee has taken another short sighted approach to our energy needs…. very disappointing.

By the way , Senator, why again were you the only member of both houses of the California legislature to vote AGAINST the bill to provide transparency for the hidden funds in Cal Poly’s foundations ( and other CSU’s)???

Anyone that closely tied to Cal Poly’s administrations in the past or present is a big question in my mind.

Blakeslee’s mistrust of private sector seismologists is interesting. Why would a government employee seismologist be better? They all attend the same schools; it’s just that the private sector employs the best….

As long as we are on that topic, what happened at Exxon, Sam? Why did you leave your chosen vocation?

In any case, this doubt-casting has no use; the NRC will quickly shut down Diablo (or any plant) if an issue is found that contradicts with the plant’s design and licensing basis calculations. This works 24/7 and whether or not you have a license extension.

By the way, PBS, nobody uses the Richter scale anymore. Get schooled.

Closing DCPP would result in irreparable harm to the economy of this county.

Meh… It would be rather easy to repair the harm to the economy of the county. Just build some new reactors somewhere else. Or, build and IFR to deal with the spent rods that are stored on site. I just doubt that the SLO Mothers for “Peace” would like either solution…

Blakeslee did and end run on us concerning the county sewer project in Los Osos. He and some family members are trying to get surrounding land around Diablo bought up and retired. Retiring Diablo would complete the dream IF it happened. Then Blakeslee would be the go to guy for bringing developement into oceanfront/ranchland property worth Gazillions. How would he find money to push that through? How about Blakeslee & Blakeslee Inc. Financial planners to the wealthy in SLO co.? Geez, like he would even need to look for investors.

Karen, am I just being cynical? Care to investigate or ask some questions?

That property could be the next Malibu, if you think that wouldn’t bring it out of retirement then you missed the last 100 yrs. of Calif. history.

Wow, I am so proud to have a Senator like Blakeslee represent our area. He’s very intelligent and he’s certainly not a patsy like McCarthy. Listening to him speak demonstrates how smart he is,,,it’s hard to believe he’s a Repub (just kidding).

Although it might be right in front of me, I don’t see when this airs, I’d like to let my friends and family know so they can watch it.

Thank you Sen. Blakeslee, you took your love of our area over politics and I for one truly appreciate it.
