Weekend spotlight: Stone Soup Music Faire

August 26, 2011

Now in its 19th year, the Stone Soup Music Faire is a wildly popular weekend event.

A musical feast? Yes. A mix of international foods and local wines? It is all that and so much more. Grover Beach comes to life with salsa contests, juggling, acrobatics, story telling and an exploration station for the younger set.

Stone Soup is slated to kick off with the 22nd Annual 5 and 10K “Dune Run-Run.”

During the Saturday and Sunday faire, musicians such as The Jill Knight Trio, Masanga Marimba, the Red Skunk Jipsee Swing Band and headliners Tempest will command the stage while activities for all ages abound.

Looking for the perfect way to rev up your weekend, come out to hear fantastic local musicians perform their craft at the Court Street Summer Jazz featuring Black Market Trio.

Let this fun trio take you on a melodic and improvisational powerhouse tour through Brazil, Cuba, Funk-Jazz, and even a stop through Morroco on August 27, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Court Street Terrace by Pottery Barn in San Luis Obispo.

Vina Robles winery is hosting its own event Saturday that doesn’t take you as far back as the stone age, but it will take you back to the 60s. The third Annual British Invasion invites attendees to journey back to the era of British Rock ‘n’ Roll.  Watch movie screenings of The Beatles’ first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and/or Martin Scorcese’s Rolling Stones documentary “Shine A Light.”

Festivities also include a silent auction featuring fine Paso Robles wines, a British car and vintage motorcycle show, fish n chips and award-winning Vina Robles wines.

Find these and other local events at CalCoastNews’ Event Calendar.

Tempest didn’t headline. That was last year. This year was “Ten Mile Tide”

I wish Grover Beach did a better job of promoting this event. It’s a really fun weekend, and this year I felt bad for the performers and vendors…just not enough people.
