Sunny Acres under receivership

Dan De Vaul

A court ordered receiver took over the reins at Dan De Vaul’s 72-acre ranch and sober living facility in San Luis Obispo County on Wednesday. [KSBY]

In August, Superior Court Judge Charles Crandall ordered De Vaul to remove people he was allowing to stay in non-code compliant structures until several county health and building code violations are corrected. De Vaul was then forced to evict 15 people from the property, many of whom began living in their cars or tents.

Court ordered receiver David Pasternak along with supporters of the Sunny Areas toured the grounds Wednesday.  Pasternak is now in charge of bringing the ranch facility to code and for handling financial issues.

De Vaul has voiced concerns that the cost of a receiver will result in the loss of his property.

“He could come in here and say basically that all the work is done, there are very few charges, and on the other hand he could run up a $2 million bill,” De Vaul told KSBY.

De Vaul is scheduled to be back in court on March 14.

The general public seems to back Mr De vaul and his one man effort to help the homeless. I urge anyone who knows of Mr. De vauls selfless plight to come together and help find resources in our community. Fundraising, finding contractors / builders to donate time and materials. The face of the homeless is changing. There will always be the drunks who are poster boys for the stereotype homeless but we live in a time where whole families with children are homeless and need a place to go until they can get on there feet again. Its and absolute disgrace the way San Luis Obispo has handled this. Christine Mullholland is sleeping just fine thank you, as she has been getting her way by legally bullying MR De vaul, hoping she can get him out of “HER” neighborhood. He was there first. She is like one of those fools who buys a home by an airport then whines about airplane noise. I really hope Mr De vaul overcomes this next hurtle and is able to continue his selfless good work.

Thanks for reminding us that it’s not about Christine Mulholland — it’s about the people needing assistance, for substance abuse, for self-respect, for housing & work.


It’s time to get over Mulholland’s complaints. If it wasn’t her, it would have been someone else, as DeVaul’s place is just too visible for “tony” San Luis Obispo.

Every county employee from the DA to the planners to the BOS have really screwed the pooch on this one. What a friggin waste of our tax dollars screwing with a guy who is trying to help the homeless. I would be embarrassed if I were one of them to even show my face. Our government now days is so corrupt, I have grown to trust none of them. If could make them all walk the plank, I would.

This is deja vu for me. I commented here a year ago that this whole Sunny Acres scheme was just another land grab. The scum So Cal folks that built those homes surrounding Sunny Acres and led by Christine Mullholland and her lackey Bruce Gibson are almost there. Dan D will probably lose Sunny Acres and it will be purchased by a “group” of investors and then we will get another So California Orange County housing development. The existing home prices there will go up and Christine and Bruce and the rest will make a tiddy profit. Thats always been the plan. Am I wrong? Just wait until Sunny Acres goes on the market and see who buys it. Gibson and the supervisors will probably ensure that there is only one bidder and that will be the guy that will pay them the most money. This is pretty clear to me. SLO SLIME at work again.

Devaul will lose his property in receivership (because he cannot afford the horrendous cost of bringing his property up to code the way the county imposes on him. ts a massive expense) before the election and no matter what happens after the election, they are not gonna return the property back to him (its grand theft). He is land rich and money poor (He is not a business man – just a simple nice guy – always been that way), he has already spend an enormous amount of money in legal fees to fight this. That is what he got for being a nice conscientious person.

UNBELIEVABLE! Actually heartbreaking!

The Community came together a year or so ago to keep the neighboring Synagog from foreclosure due to their misrepresentation of “membership”,why can’t they come together now & help Dan help the homeless by retaining control over HIS property, which has been in his family for years…?

Mr. De Vaul dared show the county how effective he is at what they aren’t, and now their out to steal his wealth. That’s how the bureaucrat thinks.

I don’t think it’s quite that bad — although I could be wrong. I think what is happening here is that the NIMBYS are going to extremes to protect the zoning ordinances and other bureaucratic regulations that keep their “neighborhoods” free of all the bothersome riff-raff. They are wealthy enough to buy the support of politicians and, through them, pressure the bureaucrats to fall in step. (From what I have heard, County Zoning enforcer Art Trinidad has always been a nitpicking, defensive and vengeful tool of the zoning Nazis.)


I understand that zoning laws and other regulations are needed to keep some level of decency in neighborhoods. But they can be overdone to the point of creating a class conflict and offering no type of reasonable compromise for special situations like DeVaul’s. This is what has been happening, more-or-less under the radar, within the County’s planning and zoning apparatus for the last few decades.

I don’t care if Jesus Christ or the Dalai Lama was on the Board of Supervisors during the Devaul intimidation and harassment by the BOS and county government. If they were running for reelection, I would work to get them voted out.

June 5th is a big day for incumbents Patterson and Hill.


I believe each contest has the incumbent plus one challenger. What that means is that we could turn them out in that election, with no run-off election.


But, for that to work, YOU GOTTA GET OUT AND VOTE*.

Christian nation my @ss! There was NO true Christians on the Board of Supervisors relating to the De Vaul property, because if there was, then helping the poor regarding the Sunny Acres project would have been done by now! Who is this Board of Supervisors to know more than Jesus and God’s word to supercede their commands stated below?


Jesus said; “All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.” Galatians 2:10


Jesus said: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Protect the rights of all who are helpless.” ( Proverbs 31:8)


Biblical command; “For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’ (Deuteronomy 15:11)


The entire SLO Board of Supervisors acted at their own peril upon Judgment Day by going directly against the Judeo-Christian Bible’s’ commands!

If Jesus Christ was on the Board of Supervisors there wouldn’t have intimidation and harassment by the county government. He is very powerful. Since he is not on the board that we can surmise it’s probably a good time to pray they make good decisions based on God’s teachings.


It’s time to humble the ruling party as only Jesus can. God Bless

Great concept! Let’s pray about this situation and see what happens!!!


“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” With specificity, this passage states that if one “believes” ye shall receive. (Matt 21:22) It’s just that simple.


The part where you have to “believe” is the one that derails many pseudo-christians. If the Christians prayer isn’t answered, then one can only assume that the alleged Christian really didn’t BELIEVE enough for Jesus to answer their prayer.


I truly believe, so the onus is put upon you, Spirit Filled!

It is clear, that was the intent of the county government from the very beginning.


What a travesty of justice. NO ONE but the BOS and their developers benefited from this. We have more homeless on the streets, and a man who tried to help them financially destroyed.
