Brown: Early prison release for some

May 3, 2013

prisonersLow-risk and elderly inmates in California state prisons would be released early in an effort to reduce institutional crowding, Gov. Jerry Brown announced Wednesday. (Los Angeles Times)

Brown was responding to a federal court order requiring a plan to accomplish the objective of a smaller prison population.

Thousands of other prisoners will be transferred to state fire camps or private lockups, the governor said. He will seek additional funding to lease 1,600 private prison beds.

A federal judge had threatened Brown with contempt of court if he failed to come up with a plan to meet the so-called population cap in state prisons.

“The governor’s latest filing proposes some good ideas” for the short term, said Allen Hopper, director of criminal justice policy for the ACLU of California, in a statement. “But it’s simply not enough.”

Simply put, this will do nothing more than exacerbate the problem our society has with the issue of mental illness and violence.

These are ALL convicted felons. Jerry is exercising the same sort of wisdom he did when he appointed Rose Bird to the California Supreme Court.

Another good reason to have a concealed carry permit…

Why do free people need “permits” to defend ourselves? Permits from whom?

Either we are free or we are not.

Sounds to me like the latter.

If a private company was smart, they would buy property in Mexico and build prisons there. That way we could incarcerate the illegal criminals in their home country. Or, pay the mexican government to take care of their own at a fraction of the cost. Then they could not continue their gang routine in their lousy (or good in my opinion) prisons.

Good idea, but with some problems. You have to be a Mexican citizen to actually own property in Mexico.

Then you still have to worry about Mexico nationalizing all chattel mortgage properties.

As part of their parole they are mandated to stay within the city limits of Sacramento. If the govt types want to let them out make the govt types deal with them.

“private lockups” maybe like Corrections Corpration of America-CXW? They presently have 10,000 beds under construction. Could have bought the stock a year ago at 25, now 36. More like that out there. Sure gets the state out of a mandated pickle.

Aren’t a full THIRD of them illegal aliens?

Close the border and that would help! Mexico and Central America are a rich source of law breakers. Allowing them to swarm into our country is exacting a heavy price on the law-abiding, as the article implies.

South of the border, Mexican peasants are fed up and have taken over many towns with a sort of home grown martial law. The drug soldiers are running for their lives. They have even arrested some police officers because the lazy, bought off sob’s would not do their jobs. I love it!

Viva la revolución!

Take a look at this site::::Borderlandbeat.

It’s coming to our towns and cities anytime now…

Excellent website!

Yes, good stuff. In depth detailed

Let’s at least let out the pot heads first.

Yeah low risk. Jerry’s kids. didn’t we just haul one out of Mexico for something? Remember? Watch this one closely.

What the hell is a private lock-up? Somebody’s basement or factory. First time I’ve heard about private lock-ups. Tell us more.

Also how’s it going to save money to remove them from jail when they will still have to be prisoners no matter where they are and that costs money?

Weird. Obviously they think we are all stupid. Maybe I am. But gosh darnit I’m sick of the government and I don’t want to take it anymore! I didn’t vote for either one of them. And now they run the US and Calif.

God Bless

Well said, Spirit Filled, well said.

Hello – Please read the book “Prison Profiteering.” It explains quite a bit about the mess we’re in.

Looks good. Thanks.
