February 10, 2014
A Santa Maria man allegedly attempted to kidnap and sexually assault a 16-year-old girl last week. [KSBY]
The girl was walking with female friends near the intersection of North Broadway and Taylor Street around 10 p.m. on Wednesday night when Felipe Cruz, 25, grabbed her, according to Santa Maria police. The girls fought off Cruz and ran away.
Police arrested Cruz and booked him in Santa Barbara County Jail.
A series of sexual assaults have occurred recently near the river levee in Santa Maria, but police say the incident does not appear to be related. The man accused of perpetrating the assaults near the river levee has been riding a bicycle up to women and groping them from behind.
