On Saturday afternoon, the toddler wandered behind the vehicle as the woman was backing out of a residential driveway during a neighborhood barbecue. Emergency responders rushed the child to a hospital where he later died.

The toddler was in the driver’s blind spot when the vehicle was backing up. Santa Maria Police called the incident a tragic accident.

“At this time it doesn’t appear there is any wrongdoing on the driver’s part. It seems like it was just an accident,” said police officer Rudy Alvara.

Officers said the female driver was not intoxicated.

The parents of the child were in close proximity to their son at the time of the accident.

“The parents of the child were in close proximity to their son at the time of the accident.”

The above statement is code for; “Where were the parents in not keeping an eye out in protecting their innocent two-year old child?”

A tragedy all the way around. Truly sad.
