An Atascadero man was arrested for child cruelty after his 7-month-old son tested positive for cocaine.
After receiving a tip that Billy Lee Remick, 26, had attempted to illegally ship 559 grams of marijuana through the mail, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff deputes served a search warrant at his Atascadero home. During the search, deputies discovered 62 grams of cocaine packaged inside an oatmeal can that was boxed for shipping.
Deputies also found Remick’s son in a crib next to a nightstand where several loose pills lay within reach of the child, the sheriff’s office said in a press release. The loose pills included prescription pills and illegal narcotics such as Ecstasy.
A urine sample of the baby tested positive for cocaine and the child was turned over to Child Welfare Services.
Deputies arrested Remick on charges of possessing a controlled substance for sale and willful cruelty to a child and booked him into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
