Police, public ream Arroyo Grande council and manager

September 24, 2014

arroyo grandeThe Arroyo Grande City Council and its embattled city manager received a barrage of criticism Tuesday night from both members of the public and city police officers.

About 75 people attended Tuesday’s council meeting, many of whom wore black in support of the Arroyo Grande Police Officer’s Association and spoke during public comment. All of the speakers spoke in opposition to the council’s handling of an apparent affair between City Manager Steve Adams and Community Development Director Teresa McClish, whom officers discovered together in a darkened City Hall office late at night on July 3.

On Tuesday, officers who spoke during public comment focused their criticism on the alleged coverup of the July 3 incident. They maintained that city management and council members have misrepresented their statements about Adams and McClish, have lied about apparent violations of city policy and have impeded a proper investigation of the matter.

One former officer said during public comment that Adams broke the law by lying to a police officer, and that he should be terminated. Other public speakers also called for the termination of Adams, as well as the resignation of council members.

Adams was frequently shaking his head in disagreement with the officer comments Tuesday night.

Not one speaker supported him.

Over the weekend, the council caved and agreed to allow an independent investigation of the July 3 incident. A task force including council members Tim Brown and Jim Guthrie will choose the investigator.

Mayor Tony Ferrara invited the police union to participate in the selection of the investigator, but the police officers association rejected the offer Tuesday. Officers said that it is not their duty to investigate personnel matters and city policy violations by city leaders and questioned why officials involved in the alleged cover-up would have any say in the investigation.

As Tony states at every meeting they can not take actions on what is said during public comment.

WRITEor EMAIL the city with a request they use the DA to choose the investigator, or with your concerns or comments about last night.

We need the paper trail, to force them into action.

Remember wear Black to honor those officers who protect us every day and night until this gets resolved.

Harvest festival is this weekend, let’s see if Tony likes getting BOO’D as he goes by in a car, and the rest of the council for that fact.

Aren’t those items considered public comment as well?

Honestly don’t know, just asking. But I do agree that it’s always helpful to let them have it from any/all angles…keeps ’em guessing.

if you think the arroyo grande city council is inept please like the above page

Was the meeting televised and archived somewhere?

If you live in AG watch channel 20 they will re play this at different times for the next week or two

Thank goodness for Tivo!

Not only was last night a night to remember, it will be a night to watch and re-watch!

Is there anyway it can be taped and sent to me? Or I guess I could contact AGP and get a copy? , agag1?

Try the internet, I hear it’s available there. Let me find out more, and get back to you.

Ohhhhh nuuuuuuurrrrrrsssssse!

Slospan.org

Get yourself a nice hot cup of tea and ENJOY!

Is it interesting to anyone else that the only consent item the City Council choose to talk about, 8c, Recycled water study, Ms. McClish was listed as the staff person to present it but for some reason another staff person handled that? Also, on the Public Hearing section, 9, both items were listed again as Ms. McClish to present to the council but again a no show. Is she still working?, still being paid?, on leave?, on vacation? perhaps on disability?, talking with her attorney?. Another strange issue.

Didn’t someone mention she got a stress pass for the night?

First thought is how do I get one of those?, would be great to get some time off, then I remembered I would have to “have tea” with my boss, and trust me that isn’t going to happen

Soooooo not worth it…I’m sure Teresa would like a re-do.

Uh oh…someone thinks you’re having tea with your boss!

The POA did an outstanding and very gutsy showing last night (I watched on SLO SPAN). Ironic that in Arroyo Grande you have City Manager and Administrative staff that should leave, encouraged to leave by the public but is defended by the City Council. In Morro Bay we had a City Manager and City Attorney that were forced to leave for no reason by irons, johnson and smuckler but defended by hundreds of citizens. The common denominator with these two is the Council Majority. Please, please, can we have some educated, ethical, morale individuals run for these offices!

We in AG feel your pain.

agag1

Well if you would like a new competent, honest, bright articulate, city manager that has many years of experience that is and has been highly respected by the majority of a city that she has worked for 20 plus years then by all means get a hold of Andrea Lueker our recent city manager of Morro Bay. You would be getting the cream of the crop to say the least. Feeling your pain AG, as we now have Tony’s twin brother as our mayor (Jamie Irons) not to mention a couple of his really SLEAZY comrades as council-members. Christine Johnson and Noah Schmuckler.

So you don’t miss any of the good stuff going on down here, tune into slospan.

Also, heard Dave on KVEC is having AG residents on at 5 tomorrow.

Now get back to work…

Oh, hoping we will be needing services of Ms Lueker soon. You could come visit!

I had a great nights sleep last night, I am so in awe of what happened last night. After years of going to council meeting and knowing you were not heard, and then last night happens.

I say we do champagne and shrimp and invite the police over for some good food too.

I think the harvest festival will be interesting to say the least.

The police understand what it means to serve and protect. words just cannot express my gratitude to everyone of them. THANK YOU is not enough, we need to continue to support them until we get the house clean.

Honestly, I feel like hosting a party, serving popcorn and beer,

and watching the council video of last night. For those of you who missed it, you missed out!

It was EPIC!

Way to go AG POA, and residents!

I am thinking if we could find someone to work a deal on some meat, let’s say burgers, I will fix beans, maybe some one can do a salad, the police now have a grill at the temporary location. Why does the public not offer a BBQ to the PD and family right there at their office.

I think if we asked people to chip in for the cost of the meat, we could feed the men and woman of the police dept one hell of a meal to show how much we appreciate them. No public officials allowed.

Just still in awe of what our people in Blue did for us last night. I feel like I owe them my first born male child ha ha

Can you imagine 75 people showing up to your job and demanding your be fired?! Wow!

The city manager will fight to hang on to his job no matter what. Government officials are only qualified to work in goverment. They are not capable of having and keeping real jobs.

Actually the City Manager had applied for another job, HE knew he should be fired.

Someone ??? obviously convinced him his job would be safe…

If only they didn’t reveal ALL of the truth,

if only it was allowed to remain a personnel matter,

If only the City Attorney backed up this claim,

If only the KSBY interview was believable enough,

if only the police remained quiet,

If only they could convince everyone the Trib was THE truth,

if only CCN and KVEC didn’t get involved,

if only people weren’t actually reading, or listening to fringe media

If only no one showed up for a last minute special council meeting on a Saturday,

If only folks ignored their gut instincts, and didn’t get involved

THEN it would all work out as planned!

sounds foolproof the way you laid it out. How could anything have gone wrong?

Sad, but true, we have Mr McClish to thank.

agag1, was trying to remember where I have seen this McCLish. Just learned she is the daughter of a long time attorney from Morro Bay. He has since passed. A really great guy. Feeling sad for the family as they or at least her dad was a stand up guy. And yes he was an attorney.

She obviously has a lot on her plate, I sincerely hope she’s taking care of herself. No one wishes her any ill will.

First, Great job to the Police Officers. You have my support and RESPECT.

Second, if Steve Adams was shaking his head and mouthing No last nght when the officer was recountng the incident as it happened, Does’nt that indicate that the Police Officers are lying?

If so, should’nt the be fired? And if they are lying (which I know they are not) why havent they been fired or disciplined? Isnt just as bad for the Mayor and City Council to do nothing, if indeed the believe the Police Officers are wrong or lying?

Third, How sad for the Spouses, Children and Families of ALL involved. Especially if you are related to Adams, McClish or Tony knowing that what they are saying is untrue and just doesnt add up.

These people need to go…..
