A 25-year-old Santa Maria man who was driving a semi truck carrying vegetables that exploded late Wednesday night on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo managed to escape the vehicle unharmed before it caught on fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Adrian Barriga’s truck hit the center median of Highway 101 near South Higuera Street and collided with the guardrail. The semi then struck a concrete bridge over-crossing and came to a stop partially hanging off the overpass above South Higuera Street.
The big rig then burst into flames, and Barriga escaped the cab.
