SLO makes top 10 crime surging list

February 12, 2015

gunWhile crime rates in the United States have been dropping for two decades, in the past five years the San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles area has recorded a 48.3 percent increase in violent crime. [24/7 Wall St.]

Between 1991 and 2013, violent crime in the United States – which includes murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault – fell by nearly 52 percent. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bismarck, North Dakota had the greatest increase of violent crime with a rate that grew by nearly 160 percent — from 222.1 cases per 100,000 people in 2009 to 575.5 in 2013.

The San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles area was ranked sixth with a 48.3 percent increase in violent crime over five years. In 2009, the area had 260.5 violent crimes per 100,000 residents which soared to 386.5 per 100,000 people in 2013.

The increase in the San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles violent crime rate was driven primarily by an increase in aggravated assaults, which grew by nearly 71 percent between 2009 and 2013 to 316.8 per 100,000 residents. Other types of violent crimes did not have a notable increase over the same period of time.

An increase in crime REPORTING (due to the hiring of officers with more bureaucratic experience) does not equate to an increase in CRIME. Hjinks nailed it. Despite a TINYhandful of highly publicized incidents of random assaults, this is simply a more active statistical reporting of homeless on homeless crime. In addition to the increase in reporting, there is an increase in police patrolling of the homeless, and an increase in exposure of homeless to organized agencies where they have more contact with each other and the staff involves the police on everything.

I really wish people had a clearer vision of the way in which bureaucracy is spinning it’s complex web in San Luis Obispo

Preach!

They must be counting the assaults on the open meetings act by Gibson, and assaults on good taste and public speech by Hill, assaults by unpoliced motorcycle thugs, homeless.

Add in an inattentive Sheriff busy with his pleasurecraft, look the other way motorcycle cops in SLO, Atown, Paso.

Oh, and the SLO chief gone on endless conferences.

More proof we live in the happiest place!!! Yea!!

To qualify…The happiest paranoid-schizophrenic sociopaths on the planet.

The NASD is now up to Five. If they were to investigate San Luis Obispo and environs, the psychological experts would have to list at least three more disorders: Obsessive/Compulsive Douchebaggeriness Disorder; Stuck-upness disease; Faux-eliteness syndrome.

All of these are compounded by False Expectations of Richness delusion, or derivatives thereof; of course.

this is homeless on homeless assault and will be used by the police to scare even more money out of people who are easily glossed over by headlines and shocked by emotive headlines.

Whaddaya mean! The slo cops already have armored personnel carriers, automatic combat rifles, war-zone communications equipment. What more do they need to control the homeless?

More night visions goggles, yeah that’ll definitely help.

And don’t forget last year when Sheriff Ian got almost a half million dollars for license-plate readers, night-vision goggles and a thermal-imaging camera to detect pangas at sea.

I feel safer already. Not.

What about homeless on store clerk assault?

By excusing the stats on homeless on homeless assault are you saying the lives of the homeless don’t matter? Isn’t assault on any human assault?

I guess if we get rid of the homeless then crime stats will drop significantly. Now there’s an idea!

Your link lists lot’s of guns, gun parts, some trucks, stools, telescopes….

But what do you think a LONG RANGE ACOUSTIC DEVICE 1 Each $34,500.00 11/30/2011 is?

3 years, are we paying to train staff to use this thing? Poly Royal perhaps.

Let me google that for myself

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Range_Acoustic_Device

Slo county has a LRAD, how much have we spent on hearing protection for the “trained users” of this device?

At least we aren’t getting attacked by sea, we have a new boat in the Sheriffs office.

Open borders and the cartels have contributed to this as well.

Really? Have we had an increase in drug traffic related violence? What percentage of the crimes involved illegal aliens?

You don’t actually know, do you?

does the drug traffic statistics include the five SLOPD officers arrested by the FBI?

That’s cute !

I bet that they don’t keep statistics on that !

( Just like there is no national database on cop killings, or even cop shootings. Hint: more people are killed by cops EVERY year in the US than were killed in 9/11 ).

If killing-by-cop was a disease, most thinking people would demand its eradication.

There is a problem there but it also points to the media over-emphasis on 9-11. It was a huge tragedy but not one likely to occur again with just some minor reasonable changes. Instead we have the “Patriot Act” and other assaults on individual liberty in the name of safety and a government full of corrupt officials that wouldn’t hesitate to use the full force of government to suppress dissent if they get to the point where they think they can get away with it. (These officials come from both parties and include our President, our newly re-elected Senator and many others.)

Thank a democrat.

With rapid economic growth comes crime, as in the oil boom in North Dakota. I beleive this County has had serious economic growth too and with that the social adjustments will take time for correction.

This is NOT like an Ellis Island welcome carpet.

I believe some places are deliberately giving their incorrigible criminally insane, addicts and derelicts a free one way bus ticket here.

Some of the homeless I have talked with will NOT go to a homeless shelter either because of suspicion of some diseases and the sorts mentioned above, instead they choose to camp out by the creek.

Ya that too.

Well, I for one am moving to Santa Maria, enough of this living in fear!

I have a feeling that you will be fearful wherever you go.

I suggest a longer relocation …like say to Antarctica or Greenland.

You won’t have to fear, or interact, with other humans much; but nature and ‘freedom’ will be your omnipresent ‘friends’ and enemies.

Good Luck !

By what percentage did our “homeless” population grow during that same time period?

By what percentage did the ignorant and greedy stay ignorant and greedy ?

So you are saying there is no correlation between the increase in bums in SLO to increased crime?

Are you also saying that those who earn money through hard work and would like to use it to make a better life for their families (save for college, etc..) are greedy and ignorant.

Isn’t government greedy for wanting more and more of our resources. Bums are certainly ignorant, aren’t they greedy for expecting something for nothing?

You sir seem to have your logic backwards. Don’t worry though, no liberal policies are founded from logic, or results, only what feels good, so you can still have a seat licking at the right hand of the Muslim currently running the country.
