Pismo Beach Mayor Shelly Higginbotham announced Monday her candidacy for the San Luis Obispo County supervisor seat currently held by Adam Hill.

Higginbotham joins San Luis Obispo Councilman Dan Carpenter, former Grover Beach Mayor Debbie Peterson and Hill in a race for the District 3 seat. The district includes Edna Valley, Avila Beach, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach and Grover Beach and a portion of San Luis Obispo.

“The 3rd District deserves a County Supervisor with a fresh service oriented spirit which respects all constituents, provides rational open decision making, and eliminates old fashion personal politics,” Higginbotham said in a press release. “With a responsive approach, reinforced by my years of proven local elected community service, I will work tirelessly to extend our economic and civic prosperity and, in so doing, enhance the resources to protect our exceptional communities.”

Higginbotham is currently the president of the League of California Cities – Channel Counties Division — which covers 25 cities in the San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties.

In 2012, the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce named Shelly Higginbotham and her husband Dr. Robert Higginbotham citizens of the year.

I guess Shelly wants to be Supervisor for San Juan Peschong County

Again we need to require that those running for a different office first resign from their current one. Would your current boss let you continue working if you announce you are actively seeking a new job? Likely not. If someone is working to secure a new job they certainly reduce their attention to their current job.

Shelly, I’m sorry but you don’t stand a chance at winning this race. You are doing just fine where you are. And poor Debbie Peterson. The local Democratic Party is ALL about elected women to office UNLESS it’s a WOMAN running against Adam Hill. The party is already raising money that will go directly to Supervisor Hill’s Campaign. Pay attention people.

Ms Higginbotham is a classically gracious and capable woman who has worked tirelessly for the benefit of Pismo Beach and the rest of the County with her assignments on SLOCOG and other powerful commissions and boards. She has through several campaigns in Pismo Beach refused to use damning information against other candidates for her own benefit.

She uses integrity and the best benefits for her constituents rather than personal gain or agenda when she evaluates issues before the City Council or other commissions / boards that she serves on. Whether she has an R or a D or an I behind her voter registration, she makes a sincere effort to be a good public servant rather than a self-serving, ruthless, politician such as Adam Hilll, Bruce Gibbson, and Caren Ray.

I don’t always agree with the decisions, positions Ms. Higginbotham takes, but I respect that she reaches those decisions / positions with the betterment of the citizens in mind. Out of the crowded field for this important District 3 Supervisor Seat, Ms Higginbotham is the best candidate to announce.

There are many months before the primary and then the election. I hope that people who don’t know Ms. H. and those who have one issue mind sets will open their minds to at least listening to Ms. H and evaluate her on what is best for the County at this time.

Agreed. How can we support her campaign?

Old Oak Park-slash-Noyes Canyon is NOT the Mesa. Education is banked knowledge, folks. Know the actual boundaries of each district.

If Shelly is elected ( not likely ), John Peschong will control three votes on the Board of Supervisors.

Dr. Robert Higginbotham. Isn’t he the guy the coppers caught red-handed with his Bimmer tending a marijuana farm? Hmm. Should be an interesting race.

Given what many of our elected officials have done, isn’t a little mj farming small potatoes?

Adam…consider your days in political office numbered. You will soon be history, a recent part of the past.
