San Miguel man allegedly molested girls as young as 1
November 26, 2015
A 58-year-old San Miguel man, whom deputies arrested earlier this month on child molestation charges, allegedly molested a total of at least 12 girls. The victims ranged in age from one to 12 years old, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.
Paublo Vargas Ramirez Sr. used candy and money to lure the girls into secluded areas where he would molest them, according to a sheriff’s office news release. Ramirez’s wife was operating an unlicensed day care facility at the couple’s home, investigators say.
Authorities arrested Ramirez on Nov. 2 after he allegedly fondled two girls, ages 5 and 8, at San Miguel Park. Ramirez fondled the girls over and underneath their clothes, exposed himself and forced his hand inside the underwear of the 8-year-old, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ramirez is reportedly a family friend of the two girls.
An ensuing investigation has since revealed Vargas molested 10 additional victims. The molestation occurred at San Miguel Park and at Ramirez’s home.
The park is located at 1221 K Street, and Ramirez’s home is in the 1400 block of K Street.
Ramirez already faces several charges of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old. The sheriff’s office will add several charges as a result of the investigation.
Child Welfare Services was instrumental in finding additional victims, the press release states. The district attorney’s victim and witness assistance program and the county’s child forensic interview specialist also helped with the investigation.
The investigation into the case is ongoing. The sheriff’s office requests that anyone who had children come in contact with Ramirez at San Miguel Park or his home call investigators at (805) 781-4500.
