Former Democratic State Sen. Leland Yee received a five-year prison sentence for vote selling. Yee was arrested in 2014 after an FBI sting caught him promising votes and guns to an undercover agent who was funneling him contributions. [LA Times]

Yee pleaded guilty last year to doing political favors in exchange for campaign cash. U.S. District Judge Charles Bryer sentenced him on Wednesday.

During his sentencing hearing, Yee told the judge to be lenient and consider that he devoted much of his life to the community, the people of San Francisco and the sate of California. Yee also said his wife was severely ill and needed him to care for her.

Breyer responded by saying he was not inclined to be lenient and that Yee had been hypocritical.

“It must be that the public has trust in the integrity of the institution, and Mr. Yee, you abused that trust,” Breyer said. “You showed you did not have integrity in your actions.”

Prosecutors alleged Yee had received tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions in exchange for favors that he admitted were illegal. The prosecution sought an eight-year sentence.

The sting that targeted Yee was part of an FBI investigation that spanned several years and led to the conviction of Chinatown mobster Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow. A jury found Chow guilty of more than 150 counts, including murder and operating a racketeering enterprise.

A judge will sentence Chow next month. He faces life in prison.

In 2014, Yee was one of three legislators to face prosecution. The criminal cases cost the Democrats their super-majority in the Legislature and led to some campaign finance reforms.

Federal agents arrested Yee while he was running for California secretary of state. Despite his arrest, Yee still received about 10 percent of the vote in the secretary of state primary election.

In addition to serving time, Yee must also pay a $20,000 fine. He has 30 days to report to prison.

This hypocritical POS deserved 30 years…

We all know he is not unique. I wonder just whom he ticked off to get investigated in the first place. California politics are said to be just behind NY in corruption. Just take a look at the wealthy offspring and the spouses of our elected officials. They arrive penniless to Sacramento or DC and just a few short years of service lands them in the million dollar club. If you doubt me take a look at the Feinstein, Boxer and Pelosi family portfolios.

Do as I say, not as I do. hope some well earned prison time wipes that smile right off his mug.

Dirtbag.

This guy has SOME nerve asking for leniency!

Very sad. The saddest part is that he was a pretty good legislator who sponsored some pretty good legislation. He said so many things that sounded wise and reasonable. Why in the world did he get involved in this sort of corruption? Shows the contradictions of us humans, I guess.

Probably was good friends with the Clinton’s.

Mr. Yee sponsored gun control laws while conspiring to import illegal guns from China through an international Chinese gang. Hardly a wise and reasonable legislator, he was nothing more than a greedy criminal.

not enough for selling your soul. and how much time off for “good behavior”

“Federal agents arrested Yee while he was running for California secretary of state. Despite his arrest, Yee still received about 10 percent of the vote in the secretary of state primary election.”

What does THAT say about your California Democrats? They will vote for a guy arrested by federal agents.

It’s time for the Republicans to right-size California’s government.

It shows that 90% of Democrats did not vote for him. Republicans have Trump as the front runner. Not sure that’s where our trust should go.

Anyway, I am glad this guy is in jail.

As I warned people in 2008 and again in 2012 – be careful of “just wanting a change” without knowing WHAT you are changing to. Apparently, many have not learned this lesson and are now hoping for change that Trump *supposedly* will bring.

Wow, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Again.

Hmmm. Who will be the next corrupt politician to go to prison? I have my $ on Adam Hill.

Fire Adam Hill.

FIVE YEARS?! What a JOKE!

This guy is pure filth. An insanely outspoken gun control fanatic that has done so much to infringe on our 2nd Amendment rights, all why he’s helping funnel illegal firearms right into the criminal element’s hands. I’m convinced there are a bunch more like him on the Democrats side in the legislature.

Gun control: Market manipulation by, and for the benefit of, corrupt democrat lawmakers/gun runners…
