Should California employees go to ‘anti-gay’ states?

March 7, 2016

Gay_flag.svgA California assemblyman has introduced a bill that would ban state-funded travel to states that permit discrimination based on sexual orientation. The bill targets a host of states that have adopted religious freedom laws. [Sac Bee]

Evan Low, a Democrat from Campbell, introduced AB 1887 last month. The bill would prohibit California from sending state employees to states like Indiana that have “a law in effect that sanctions or requires discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.”

Last year, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed it into law the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). The law allows plaintiffs to file lawsuits challenging anti-discrimination laws on the grounds that they infringe on their religious beliefs.

Multinational companies Apple and Eli Lily have publicly criticized the law. San Francisco and other cities responded by boycotting travel to Indiana.

“No one wants to send employees into an environment where they would be uncomfortable,” Low said.

Low’s bill, however, excludes California lawmakers and their staffs. He said the bill addresses administrative travel, not trips that are political in nature.

Low said he is unsure exactly which states his legislation targets.

The National Conference of State Legislatures says 21 states have enacted RFRA laws. The states include Arizona, Idaho, Kentucky, New Mexico, Tennessee and Virginia.

Low said he expects several Fortune 500 companies to support his bill. The LGBT-rights group Equality California is already a sponsor.

What a waste of time, air and money…

Hey I think you may of hit on a definition of at least California government…..”A waste of time, air and money”, if not government on many levels.

How un-christian like can you get with this ungodly AB 1887 bill enacted by the hell bound Evan Low?!

Conversely, all true Christians should be looking forward to traveling to any state that has direct laws of discrimination against the LGBT community because it is a part of our faith to look down upon these ungodly sadistic people.

We gain this notion of despising the gay community from our bible, but, I truly find it very hard to enact what our Bronze Age Hebrew god of our Christian faith says to do with the gay people as biblically shown below. Fellow Christians, do you agree?

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination, they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” (Leviticus 20:13)

“For this cause God gave them up into vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet . . . Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them” (Romans 1:26-27)

Slanderer of Gods Word.

Ummmm…. Enough said. Instead of the Bema seat of Christ, you will stand before the Great White Throne Judgement of Christ. Where He will separate the sheep from the goats. Guess which group you will be in?

As a “True Christian”, a follower of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I will pray for you as Ted Slanders. I don’t know you personally, but our God does.

ToHellinaHandBasket,

There is no slandering of Yahweh’s word when direct and literal passages are shown. If you don’t like what He has said, then I suggest that you find a new god concept of the Bronze and Iron Age.

Because of your insolence to Yahweh’s words in question, I suggest that you start wearing an asbestos suit because of where you’re going upon your demise.

You’re psychotic.

65BuickRoadmaster,

Yahweh god takes offense to your statement, because all I am doing is posting exact scriptures and text relative to said scriptures.

Homosexuals, sexually-confused transgenders, etc. all have the right to believe they are fine, normal and acceptable. Others do NOT have the right to believe otherwise.

To compare what used to be termed sexual deviancy to slavery in the U.S. really shows ignorance. Slavery was not a self-imposed, self-selected condition or state of mind. Slavery was forced upon someone, without their input.

Now, we are often forced, without our own input, to accept someone else’s self-selected condition or state of mind. Am I the only one seeing the irony in this weak mindset?

Freedom of Religion? Not if a homosexual couple wants YOUR cake, and YOUR cake only. God forbid they go elsewhere, and all the little self-proscribed “heroes” can avoid that place of business. Nope. Not enough, get the government involved – just look the other way when someone brings up the 1st Amendment. I’m totally sure that if a “gay” baker in San Francisco had a “Gay Only” sign, there would not be so much as a shrug… slight, feigned outrage? Maybe, but court cases, legal actions, government involvement, media headlines? Yeah, right.

rOy,

Praise your anti-gay rhetoric, you are truly a true Christian! I am sure you’ll agree that one chooses to be gay, even at a young age, as many animals choose to be gay as well.

It is really great to see a fellow true Christian like you here on CCN implementing the forcing of our Christian faith upon others that do not believe as we do, and as we’re told to do within the scriptures. Jesus is smiling upon your behalf, praise!

VOTE TED CRUZ, Bring Yahweh’s godly edicts within the bible into our government which will force all to our Christian faith!

Just when you think there is a calm in the storm some idiot in govt proves you wrong, how do we manage to elect such jackasses.

This is why we need to elect a Ted Cruz or a Donald Trump, so as to make decisions like Evan Low pale in comparison.

And if you sent a white person to a conference in Watts???

It’s a shame the homosexuals have hijacked the rainbow flag. Such a beautiful thing from nature being used to represent the exercise of sexual immorality. Gotta give them credit though as it’s terrific marketing.

Maybe so, but I will spend $100 to avoid spending a dime is SF

If it cuts down on the travel budget of state employees, please ban travel to all states. What cutting edge ideas are our state employees learning in texas?

If you need a politically correct excuse, southern states supported slavery, nevada has legal prostitution, oklahoma’s name is a racial slur against native americans (red-man), and Washington DC (not a state) is the home of the Washington Redskins.

“Red Man” is only a slur to a progressive-indoctrinated fractional tribal. I grew up with Navaho and they would often refer to themselves as “red man” and whites as “white man” – in fact, whites are OFTEN called “white man” by themselves and non-whites, just as blacks often refer to as “black man” by themselves and non-blacks. The whole “Oklahoma” and, worse / more desperate Redskins football team name were created problems for a political narrative of the moment.

There is a strong financial benefit to a quite a few people to keep racism alive and well, even if that means inventing it or (especially) exacerbating it. Most of these people exist in and around news media (which is nearly dead, except to themselves). The best thing one can do to end racism is ignore it and marginalize the people who practice it; let them know, one-on-one, that it is not ok with you. Done. Instead, we like to throw fuel on any fire; popularize (in a good or bad way) exceedingly racists groups.

You want to see REAL racism? Leave this country. Visit Africa, the Middle East, Asia… you will be in for a rude awakening. We need to stop believing that racism is OK if it’s NOT done by whites. Period.

it was meant as sarcasm.

Understood, I just chose it as my soap-box, as I was thinking about the whole made up “Redskins” issue. I had a nice conversation with a dyed-in-the-wool socialist friend of mine (he’s very well read, elderly, etc) and I asked him why wasn’t “Redskins” racist 2 years ago? 5 year, 10 years, etc. He claims it always was and only now are people being educated* about it.

*my theory: “educated” as used by a progressive quite literally means indoctrinated or trained thoughts.
