Atascadero Republican activist charged with electioneering at polling place

Following the release of a YouTube video published by an opponent of the rejected Santa Margarita quarry project, an elderly Atascadero activist has come in the cross hairs of state prosecutors and is now facing charges.

Edith Knight is facing two misdemeanor counts, and if convicted, could serve up to a year in jail. Knight is accused of violating a legal prohibition on campaigning within 100 feet of a polling place on election day.

During the June 2016 primary election, Knight was filmed while sitting inside the Atascadero Elks Lodge and talking on the phone with a voter. The Elks Lodge was serving as a poling place at the time.

In the YouTube footage, Knight can be heard referencing a voter list that she appears to be holding. Knight asks the person on the phone whether he or she is “planning on coming down.”

Toward the end of the conversation, the individual holding the camera chimes in, saying “you can’t do that in here.”

In the description of the video, a YouTube user with the name “No Quarry on 58” states Knight began the phone conversation by saying she was calling on behalf of the election campaign of Supervisor Debbie Arnold.

“The individual calling people from a list (seated under the picture of the Elks Lodge President) is Edith Knight of Atascadero. I was so shocked she was doing this I videotaped her conversation. What I missed was that she started the call with I am calling on behalf of the campaign to elect Debbie Arnold.”

In the previous election cycle, Knight contributed $837.50 to the campaign of District Attorney Dan Dow, according to Dow’s financial disclosure. The county district attorney’s office did not say whether they are not prosecuting the case due to a conflict of interest.

Edith Knight is a great lady and would never knowingly break any electioneering laws.

She is as honest and sincere as the day is long. It was a Democrat looking for something to charge the republicans with- just like the constant “fake” news stories that are constantly being reported by Left wing news reporters.


All charges against Edith Knight should be dropped immediately! One mistake in all her voting years has lead to her arrest with a possible penalty of a year in jail! Outragious! The issue against Edith is a poor attack against a woman who has had over 80 years of impeccable character.

Telephoning a voter to remind them that it is Election Day is not electioneering. Even if the caller was asking a voter on the other end of the conversation to vote a certain way, the solicitation is heard not at the polls but at by the voter who is not present. HOWEVER, the false accusation of a crime constitutes defamation, with damages presumed.

Maybe we should call the Democrats, Confederates then draw a line or should it be circles around Feinstein and Pelosi Ville and get this BS over with. The anger towards corporations, the wealthy are on both sides and this free country is about the opportunity to work and make your own life. For eight (8) years I have had to live with Obama as my President. I didn’t like it because as I felt he was racist (took us back 40 years – Tryvon Martin, Michael Brown, fascists roiting), did not follow American immigration laws, destroyed my health care and rates, had Hillary Clinton as Sec of State collecting millions for favors in a pay-for-play scheme, including the reset button with Russia and sold them 20% of our uranium, turned on Israel giving American money into their election, allowed ISIS to be born, Syrian red-line, gave billions to Iran, the fake video over the Benghazi incident, traded a traitor for dangerous criminals, raised our taxes, etc. etc. etc.


Did I take to the streets, did I call for impeachment, my Party allowed him to select his cabinet, and while they may not have totally cooperated with him, they did not set up roadblocked for his administration and he was allowed by hook and crook to get his agenda done.


Democrats need to pull up their big boy pants and move forward and win their elections outside of California, Oregon and Washington – socialist states!
