A former Santa Maria Uber driver was sentenced on Thursday to one year in county jail for raping an intoxicated passenger after the he entered a guilty plea.

In April, a woman told police she had an Uber driver pick her up and drive her to a location in Santa Maria. Upon reaching the destination, the driver took her to another location and sexually assaulted her.

In May, ICE agents located 37-year-old Shadi Aziz Abdul at the United States-Mexico border in San Diego and arrested him.

On Thursday, Abdul was sentenced to one year in jail, five years of felony probation and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Last year, police arrested another Uber driver who was living in Santa Maria and accused of rape. Alfonso Alarcon-Nunez, an illegal immigrant who had previously been deported to Mexico, allegedly lured intoxicated women, including SLO County college students, into his vehicle. He then followed them inside their homes, sexually assaulted them, stole valuables from them, and charged them excessive amounts for their rides.

Additionally, in Nov. 2018, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Lyft driver, Jason Lamont Fenwick, for allegedly sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman and then burglarizing her Nipomo home.

Unbelievable. Another example of a problem rooted in global overpopulation

Wow… just wow… story gets even worse.

Pearlman added that his client — who has been in jail since his arrest on May 23 — will only serve half his sentence in County Jail under PC4019, which stipulates that an inmate will serve four days of confinement for every two days spent in actual custody if the person is sentenced to a county jail.

Dan Dow had nothing to do with this rapist getting only one year, which by the way will be about eight months in county jail, if allowed good time. Dan Dow seems to get a lot of smack unfairly, though he will gain many supporters back if he finally is able to get justice for missing Cal Poly freshman, Kristin Smart, after over twenty-three long years…

You can’t even call it a slap on the wrist anymore! More like a gentle caress. There’s no deterrent to crime anymore, just do what you want, you will not get punished!

I think I should point out to all the commenters here taking the opportunity to rip Dan Dow.

The article highlights criminal behavior in Santa Maria, which is in Santa Barbara county. This was not under Dow’s watch. Your beef is with; Dr. Joyce Dudley the DA for SB county.

She would be the one going easy on a undocumented rapist.

I am no fan of Mr Dow. But facts should matter.

These days you have to commit triple murder before you get more than 20 years.

And what about Uber? What does this say about their screening of drivers to prevent just this situation occurring to the most vulnerable? There is not a snowballs’ chance in HELL I would get into one of their vehicles. Seems to me that the women involved should be suing the crap out of Uber right about now.

Furthermore, if he was perpetrating these crimes previous to this incident, why the HELL was he still on the street? We have LOTS of prison cells. How about we let the pot people out and put the people like the perp above in. And if I had my way, Mr. Dow would be in the gen pop right along with him.
