A California Highway Patrol helicopter airlifted a mountain biker off a trail in San Luis Obispo on Sunday after the person suffered undisclosed injuries.

The individual was mountain biking Sunday morning on Bowden Ranch Trail above San Luis Obispo High School. The SLO City Fire Department learned the biker needed help at approximately 10:36 a.m.

A CHP H-70 helicopter appeared to have staged for the rescue on a field at SLO High, a photo tweeted by the fire department shows. Cal Fire personnel also assisted San Luis Obispo firefighters and the CHP aerial team with the rescue.

It is unclear what occurred in the lead up to the mountain biker needing to be rescued.

slomark, took the words right out of my mouth…

I live by this trail and do it all the time. Anyone trying to do it on a bike is out of his mind. It’s the toughest short hike in the county, and the trail is rocky and steep.

Agree with you 100%. In fact anyone riding down that trail would be a danger to hikers as it is very narrow in some parts.

There is another trail which leads to the same location, San Luis Drive Trail

its very tough too…

I am pleased to see that Google has High School Hill Trail correctly labeled. That’s a very old name. A few years back SLO firefighters tried to rename it after themselves. That was just wrong.

It’s an AWESOME hike though! Best in the city! I don’t believe bikes are allowed on it, are they?
