Resnicks among large donors in Newsom’s anti-recall fight

Beverly Hills billionaires Stewart and Lynda Resnick, who have been eyeing influence over management of the Paso Robles Groundwater Basin, have contributed a total of $250,000 to California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s anti-recall campaign. [LA Times]

The Resnicks, who own entities including POM Wonderful, Fiji Water and JUSTIN Wines in Paso Robles, grow water-intensive pistachios and almonds on more than 100,000 acres in the San Joaquin Valley. They are heavily involved in state and local water policy, particularly through their ownership stake in the Kern Water Bank.

Newsom’s anti-recall campaign has garnered $54 million in contributions, more than the $50.2 his gubernatorial campaign raised over four years leading up to the 2018 election. It has only taken five months for the governor’s anti-recall campaign to amass $54 million in donations.

Most of the money has come from six and seven-figure contributions by longtime Democratic financial backers. Government employee and trade unions, as well as individuals and interest groups that stand to benefit from a relationship with the governor, account for Newsom’s largest donors.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, a major proponent of charter schools, contributed $3 million, the highest total among individual donors. The Service Employees International Union and its local affiliates have contributed a combined total of $5.5 million to Newsom’s anti-recall campaign.

While California’s campaign finance rules prohibit donations to individual candidates of more than $32,400 per election, there are no contribution limits for committees that merely promote or oppose the recall. That affords individuals and groups seeking to influence state policy the opportunity to make large contributions to the incumbent governor.

where’s the Manson family when you need them? These people are disgusting pigs

The Resnicks are disgusting people who represent the progressive oligarch we have in this state and country. They rape whatever they get a hold of and be damned with the little peons.

Don’t they own some crappy winery? Justinforthebucks? I used to not believe in boycotting for political reasons because you don’t want to have a civil war over every issue but I am tempted to donate my bottles of Justin to the sewer (and it is really good wine) and have recommended it to others. But frankly don’t want my money going to the people who are throwing the whole state into the sewer.

What a big waste of time…mailout elections are fraught with fraud…just the other day they found hundreds of blank recall ballots in a trunk of a car in Los Angeles….until we go back to the way we use to run elections I won’t trust the accuracy of any of them….

Remember when the leftists occupied Wall St, with all the teeth gnashing and wailing over rich white people controlling politics?

Yeah. About that.

Seems, the Resnick’s don’t want a black guy from South Central to be governor….

a guy from south central that wants to roll back all environmental protections, eliminate all covid restrictions (see how well that worked out for Florida), wants a $0 minimum wage, makes disparaging remarks about woman and would require women to notify employers if they plan to become pregnant, etc. yeah I can’t imagine why he is only polling at 20% right now…

“In July, Elder told the Los Angeles Times that racism no longer exists in the United States. The newspaper also reported Elder has previously suggested some “women were too unattractive to be sexually assaulted.””

““Are there legitimate business reasons for a venture capitalist to ask a female entrepreneur whether and when she intends to have children? Hell, yes,” Elder wrote.” (otherwise known as pregnancy discrimination)

“Elder stated that Democrats easily manipulate women because “women know less than men about political issues, economics and current events.””

“Elder also said women “exaggerate the problem of sexism.” The following year, he wrote in a column that premenstrual syndrome “really stands for Punish My Spouse (or Significant Other)” and promoted a 1950s textbook on “How to be a Good Wife” that directed women to “have dinner ready,” “clear away the clutter,” “touch up your makeup,” and to “never complain.””

“Elder can’t see racism even when it hits him in the face like a slap: “He said that the first year after he got a driver’s license, police stopped him ‘between 75 and 100’ times,” she wrote. To what does he attribute this obvious harassment? “He argues the stops happened because he ‘looked young.’””

Besides Larry being a jerk, he is simply not qualified or experienced enough to manage our state. Like we need a new Cuomo pu##y grabber and chief in California with a history of right wing radio.

Why am I not surprised?! Honor among thieves. Lets kick the Resnicks out of our state as well as Newsom!

Jon Tatro

The ruling elite privileged take care of each other, time to rise up and take back our state. Recall corruption recall Newsome.

We haven’t had a decent Governor, since Deukmejian.

I hope that all of the “progressive” voters will look in the mirror and have a honest conversation about this recall. Regardless of your hatred toward Trump. Republicans, etc. please focus on performance and leadership when making a decision about your vote. This is not about Trump, or Republicans. ( fact: nearly 30 percent of those who signed the recall petition are Democrats and Independents).

Ask yourself, would you hire this man to run your multi/billion dollar company?

He is a phony, two-faced, untalented and unprincipled politician.

In my opinion, he should be fired and replaced by someone, who knows who that is, but enough is enough.

That is why we have a recall process.

Vote recall!

This is the final decision maker for me for recall of Newsom …trying to buy an election process .I sincerely hope his massive donations do nothing but bring more yes votes to this recall .When I watch the Newsom ads or watch his interviews all I hear is him begging for no recall and his message somehow says to me vote him out .I watched a interview the other night he was soaked in sweat in an air conditioned restaurant interview …when the interview was over he kept bowing over and over to the interviewer as if they were of Asian descent the interviewer was not Asian or it seemed Newsom felt he just completed a performance worthy of an Encore ….bizarre

They live in fear of what’s to happen when Larry Elder cancels their pay-to-play game!

are you sure he isn’t funded by them?
