Cal Poly’s rules and costs for Charlie Kirk memorial

Charlie Kirk

By KAREN VELIE

Following the death of Charlie Kirk, supporters in San Luis Obispo County planned to hold a memorial at one of the public areas at Cal Poly. A request the administration appeared to support before throwing in mutiple roadblocks and a large bill.

A lone gunman shot and killed Kirk on Sept. 10. The next day, local Turning Point USA leaders reached out to Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong with plans to hold a memorial on campus.

Armstrong’s office voiced support before administrators began appearing to obstruct plans to have a memorial in an outdoor area shortly after Kirk’s death.

In the past, campus administrators have permitted pro-Palestinian members of the community to gather in public places at no cost. Rules for public gatherings at Cal Poly include no identity-concealing masks and time and place restrictions.

But in regards to the planned Kirk memorial, campus administrators wanted it held in a classroom or inside the Performing Arts Center at a cost of $5,000, with no availability until Sept. 29, according to several attendees at a meeting with promoters and campus staff. Administrators voiced safety concerns regarding anti-Kirk protestors.

The Kirk vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Performing Arts Center at Cal Poly, said Nina Spinello, president of Turning Point’s SLO County Activism Hub. More than 3,000 attendees are expected.

Of Course Armstrong did! They are making it incredibly clear, It’s a spiritual war, more than anything else.

response to Army

Thank you for your civil comment.

I think your response speaks for itself and confirm what i was saying.

I don’t get it. I have a book on my table: “The College Scam” by Charlie Kirk. How can there be such things on a campus when Mr. Kirk thought college was a scam? What am I missing?

Uh, he wanted to eliminate the problem. Did you read it?

Just hold the memorial at the intersection of Hathway and Kentucky, no charge, free security, and you get to urinate in public at the regular rate, not the “safety enhancement” double charge used to discriminate against others at certain times.

i did not know who was charlie Kirk until his death. So i listened to 15 of his you tube videos.

First I condem his killing; i am thinking of his wife and kids and it is very upsetting.

However i also disagree with his speeches ; hating and humiliating others is not good

Sure there is the first Amendment but for a guy who prided himself to be inspired from the bible ,i think he was an hypocrite and a professional agitator.

He had a gift, debating people and i wish he could have use it in the name of love and unity

So, you’re saying you don’t like to hear truth or facts?

Two genders only: Man and Woman. Any other gender is a mental disorder.

A man biologically and physiologically cannot be a woman, no matter what drugs taken, surgery performed, nor designer dresses worn.

DEI, Affirmative Action, race quotas, are all racist, technically illegal, and do not promote skill, knowledge, or quality.

Women make the exact same wage, for the exact same job. It’s federal law.

Biblical truths, have been well known and documented for over 4000 years.

There are many other Charlie facts out there, but I’m thinking you either had a predisposed conclusion, and only heard what you wanted to, or, you really didn’t watch any videos.

I attended and the sentiment was very much that of unity. The President of the Turning Point Cal Poly group stated, “It’s important that we forgive the man that killed Charlie. And it’s important that we forgive those that continue to mock his death.” It was a very touching vigil.

Some conservative students wanted to show their disdain for the violence of Antifa and support for the man killed by one of its followers, but the Cal Poly administration is opposed to their ideology and want to diminish them. No surprise. Cal Poly culture is atrocious.

Many years ago Cal Poly was the pride of SLO County as a good representation of our rural communities. But over the past 50 years or so it has become a cancer within our community, unnaturally bringing high-paid, left-wing influencers to our doorstep. It is not positive for the students or the Central Coast region.

Be better President Armstrong.
