By LETICIA RODRIGUEZ

Hot cars, wine and Cyndi Lauper are just a few of the exciting events taking place on the Central Coast this coming week.

Start your weekend off by enjoying the view of classic cars cruising through Atascadero. The City of Atascadero presents “Hot El Camino Cruise NIte” on Friday night. The event features hot rods, classic and historic cars cruising from Curbaril to Traffic Way on El Camino Real. Registration is $20 if you sign up before noon on Friday otherwise registration is $30 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Pueblo and San Luis Avenue. The event is free to the public and begins at 6:30.

Head just down the Cuesta Grade on Saturday to the 8th Annual Rendezvous at Santa Margarita Ranch. CASA is hosting a fundraiser at the ranch that will benefit abused and neglected children in San Luis Obispo County. The event will also include live music, food and silent and live auctions where KCOY 12 news anchors Arturo Santiago and Katie Marzullo will be the masters of ceremonies. The event begins at 5 p.m. and tickets are $100 per person. For more information or reservations call 805-541-6542.

Can’t go to the event but still want to help CASA? Tickets are available to win a lunch, tour and wine tasting, 50 bottles of wine and more. Tickets are $50 each or buy four and get the fifth free. For tickets call CASA at 541-6542 or visit www.slocasa.org.

Take the rest of the weekend to tap into your inner writer before heading to the San Luis County Library to learn about book publishing. The library will host “Book Publishing 1-2-3: From the Writer’s Fingers to the Reader’s Hands.” The free workshop is for aspiring authors who want to learn how to get their foot in the door and get their work published. There will be a writing exercise, a Q & A session and a presentation by book editor Laurie Gibson. The event will take place on the first floor conference room from 6 to 7 p.m.

After, head a few blocks closer to the center of downtown to see “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks at Downtown Brewing Company. Tickets to the 21 and older show can be purchased for $25 in advance or for $27 at the door. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Finally, end your work week early on Thursday in style by seeing  “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” singer Cyndi Lauper at the Chumash Casino. Tickets prices range from $25 to $75. The show starts at 8 p.m.
