Two killed in Nipomo crash

June 20, 2011

A violent collision in Nipomo has left two Santa Maria residents dead and three others injured.

At about 4:20 p.m., a Chevy Cavalier crossed the double yellow line on Hutton Road and hit a pickup truck tearing the Cavalier in half and sending the front portion of the truck a 100 feet from the back end.

The driver of the Cavalier and a back-seat passenger were killed. The third passenger and the two occupants of the truck were taken to local hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol believe the driver of the Cavalier was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Some really great points here. #1 a moment of bad judgement can change your life forever and others. #2 sadly alot of these accidents you read about alcohol generally plays a factor in it. I dont know when people will figure these simple concepts out.

“At about 4:20 p.m….” – I think it’s pretty obvious what illegal drug was the cause of this accident!

You don’t even have to be DUI.

All it takes is one second of poor judgement at high speed and your in a head-on or partial head-on.

What is scary, is I just was explaining that to my kids (as we read about the DUI of the four 21-year olds that caused all the ruckus with Ogren and Kelly)…

I had just said, all it takes is a moment of bad judgment to drink and drive, or get in the car with someone intoxicated; or worse, you just have to be driving along and doing everything right and BAM, some drunk hits you!

I *just* told them about that, wow. Freaky.
