San Francisco bus workers making six figures in overtime

Head of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency signal shop Khoa Trinh clocked nearly 2,000 hours of overtime at a rate of $83.85 an hour. Trinh earned $163,856 in overtime pay in fiscal year 2011-2012, more than doubling his base salary of $106,036.

The Muni signal shop chief averaged about 40 hours of overtime a week and also received $23,000 in premium pay and shift differentials. Trinh’s compensation for the fiscal year totaled $293,370.

Muni chief Ed Reiskin told the San Francisco chronicle that Trinh had a lot of work to do.

“We had to do a lot of work at night when the trains weren’t running to get the new train control system working,” Reiskin said.

While Trinh earned the most overtime pay, a transit supervisor clocked even more hours of overtime. Muni Transit Supervisor Evette Geer-Stevens clocked 2,262 hours of overtime — the most on any transit worker. Geer-Stevens received $147,446 in overtime pay.

In the last fiscal year, the transit agency paid out $55.7 million in overtime, far exceeding the amount distributed by the San Francisco police and fire departments.

The Muni recently received national attention for its bus advertisements promoting the cause of jihad. An Islamic group sponsoring the ad campaign says it is trying to reclaim the meaning of jihad as a personal struggle, rather than a holy war.

Conservative blogger and columnist Pamela Gellar proposed anti-jihad ads to the Muni in response. Gellar’s ad proposals include quotes from Osama bin Laden and Fort Hood shooter Major Nidal Hassan about committing murder and screaming “Allahu Akbar.”

This is either an incompetent or corrupt employer. No need to pay someone 1.5 or 2 times the going rate. It’s called hire some more people and delegate. Most likely there was both incompetence and corruption because nobody can continually put in an extra 40 hour a week and perform.

Good point. It works out roughly that he would have had to either work 16 hour days five days a week or 14 hour days six days a week or 12 hour days seven days a week and for a YEAR!!!


Hell I worked three months straight about six years ago and only averaging eight to nine hours a day. I was GLAD when that three months was DONE!!! And he did a year??? I DON’T THINK SO!!!! You are right the taxpayer in San Fran is getting fleeced somewhere.
