Brennler, Luna won’t run again

August 1, 2008

By KAREN VELIE

Atascadero Mayor Mike Brennler won’t seek a second term on the Atascadero City Council because of health concerns.

And council member George Luna said he will also retire from the council

Relatively unknown before his first attempt at public office, Brennler ran for a two-year seat promising to address local corruption. With three seats up for grabs in the 2006 election, he tallied the highest percentage of votes.

“From day one I’ve always known I was in a position, if I was compromising my health or the welfare of my family, I would have to leave the public arena,” Brennler said. “Politics is an ugly business.”

During his tenure, Luna voted to make development pay for itself and for downtown redevelopment. He approved the Atascadero Road Plan, and was involved in balancing the city’s budget and avoiding municipal layoffs in the early 1990s. Luna has been a majority favorite during the past decade.

How might these changes affect Atascadero? Let’s recap the past few years:

April 2006: The Rottman Group announced plans to build a super Wal-Mart at the corner of El Camino Real and Del Rio Road;

May 2006: City officials denied prior knowledge of negotiations with the box-store giant;

June 2006: Opponents and proponents of Wal-Mart began a battle that still rages today;

July 2006: E-mails leaked to the media reveal city officials and staffs were negotiating with the retail giant in 2005;

November 2006: Newcomers Brennler and Ellen Beraud, along with incumbent Tom O’Malley, won seats on the council. Advocating transparency in government and reform, Brennler and Beraud immediately encountered a volatile opposition;

January 2007: Prompted by Brennler and Beraud, the council voted to televise council meetings. In prior years, Luna’s motions to televise gatherings were always unsuccessful;

June 2007: Brennler asked law enforcement to investigate whether developer Kelly Gearhart committed fraud in not paying development fees. Gearhart is currently a defendant in a lawsuit alleging he bilked investors out of money;

February 2008: City Attorney Brian Pierik informed Brennler the FBI is investigating the city. The ongoing FBI investigation is said by sources to be focusing on possible under-the-table payoffs to, or overly-cozy relationships between, upper level city management. The probe reportedly includes both elected and non-elected officials and some private individuals;

May 2008: At a “public trust and campaign reform” workshop, O’Malley challenged Brennler to handle a dispute regarding council procedures “out in the parking lot.” Council members and a few citizens engaged in frequent heated disputes ranging from arguments about Wal-Mart, to battles over council decorum.

Three seats will be open in the November election.

I am sorry to hear that Mike and George will not run for council again. I dread to think of whom might try to replace them. Hopefully some very brave honest calvary will step up.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

I agree, I want the trails. Thanks for the idea ABA.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

George,Mike and Ellen have always tried to protect the open space and integrity of the public's privacy rights. EG Lewis would be sorry to see our protectors leaving.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

No one has a private set back. The set backs are all public. Lets rummbel for our rights as citizens to enjoy all the land that was afforded to us by EG Lewis.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Public trails along the creek. That land is set back and belongs to the public. Lets lobby for a nice trail that we can take a hike on along the lovely creeks. It would be great for atascadero. I don't want Mike and Ray to be run out of town befor I have the opportunity to wave to them every day.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

To Sad Story,

Buban, Jackson and Susie are all in business here. If they can't earn a living they will have to leave. Some of us should work on that. What does around comes aroundand it's there turn to leave. they are a detriment to the city. Whats the name of theagency that Anderson works for?

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

I'm depressed. Mike and George are such good, capable people. I don't think we can replace them. Atascadero is in deep trouble. No one with any sanity will want to run after the treatment that Mike had to put up with. There are a few people who deserve to be run out of town

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

"Who cares says: I am glad I can see the cc meetings on tv rather than attend the meetings live and up close, which can be a bit frightening."

I totally agree! Since Brennler has taken over as mayor, he's tried to bully his way around. Watch any recent CC meetings for proof. He really topped himself though when he sicked the cops on a citezen for "smirking." What a bully!

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Hahahahhaha That is really too funny. I went to the site. Someone pulled a good joke on them. Funny thing is it's the truth.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Beruade and Brenler are relatively new on the scene but the others have been around a long time and Atascadero has always been a sad mess

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

I agree. O'Malley and Clay are as disruptive as their puppet club the ABA. They used to be the CFA, go check out their previous site. It's quite amusing. http://www.citizensforatascadero.com.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

The last time I attended a council meeting (about a month ago) I watched O'Malley make a complete ass of himself breaking all the rules of decorum and arguing with the major.I think O'Malley has become mentally ill under all the pressure he has brought upon himself and should step down. He is a big part of the problem these days.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

With all the problems in A town we are talking about an ugly chunck of metal. If you think that was the most important issue A town faced this past few years, your nuts.

I am glad I can see the cc meetings on tv rather than attend the meetings live and up close, which can be a bit frightening.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

I would sooner crawl thru a rice paddy under fire than have to look at that memorial

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Anyone that would be for a mess like that should not hold public office

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Yes – with respect, that too. Little children don't need to see that. That statue should be rated 12 and older.

A Patriot and child of a wounded WWII vet.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

From the Minutes of the March 27, 2007 meeting:

MOTION: By Council Member Clay and seconded by Council Member

O’Malley to accept the Parks and Recreation Commission’s

recommendation and approve the proposed Veterans

Memorial Project at the Lake Park as proposed.

Motion passed 4:1 by a roll-call vote. (Béraud opposed)

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Ellen was against the location, not the memorial. There were several locations suggested but a handful of vocal people insisted on the lake park or sunken gardens. Two of the cities most treasured areas.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

That memorial is one ugly Mutha— Vietnam Vet

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

HERE IS THE TRUTH

Many people e-mailed Mike and Ellen about that statue. Far more than you think. Clubs everywhere were talking about the fact that the idea was great but there was one problem. The problem was that the statue is very BIG and while it's creative it lacks esthetic’s. Outright “UGLY” was the common word that described it. The majority of people didn't want it displayed in our tourist destination locations. We were all trying to be polite about the fact that it lacked esthetic appeal. Ellen and Mike both understood that. Mike caved in, Ellen held her ground.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Veterans Memorial says: Ellen was in support of a memorial. It was only the location that she was opposed to.

See my earlier and please check your FACTS before only repeating what others have said. Bearaud voted against BOTH locations: http://www.slo-span.org/cgi-bin/archive.pl?owner=

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Ellen was in support of a memorial. It was only the location that she was opposed to. There were several ideas of where it should be located. So if you are going to be honest then say Ellen voted against the location of the veterans memorial. That is a lot different than saying Ellen voted against the veterans memorial, now isn't it. One statement is intended to incite the other is just a statement of fact. Get it??? I'm sure you do and did. You chose to put a spin on it. So much for your hypocrite handle.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

"To Truth be Known says:Luna was never a part of the "special interest" majority council until the last election. Which is something you damn well know. You and your cronnies are responsible for this mess. Luna was pushing for retail development (for years) while your buddies were re-zoning the prime commercial real estate to the dirty developers. Go ahead and keep trying to tell people otherwise. The old "say it enough and it's true" strategy won't work this time. Too many people are "pissed off" and discusted with folks like you. Get honest or get the hell out of Atascadero."

Here is another example of accusations, with some assumption thrown in to boot! This person who posted assumes they know who I am, that I am associated with the nonsense they are spouting about. FACT: You have no clue who I am, as I have no clue who you are, so don't make ridiculous accusations trying to prove your point. It only makes you look like an idiot!

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Atascadero needs to clean house on the whole lot of city government and management. All the city council members other than Brennler and Beraude have presided over the continuing downslide and are a bunch of small town ignoramouses at best, in my humble opinion

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

"About the veterans memorial says: Stop with the damn lies and spin. No one voted against the veterans memorial."

Better go back and check the FACTS: http://www.slo-span.org/cgi-bin/archive.pl?owner=

Bearaud was the ONLY one to vote against the Veterans Memorial, in it's soon to be location. Thanks for proving my point abount unfounded accusations!

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Like I said earlier. Lets see what sort of candidates through their hats in the ring and who their supporters are.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Stop with the damn lies and spin. No one voted against the veterans memorial. They didn't want it in the sunken gardens, but located another excellent location for it. It doesn't belong in the sunken gardens. Its an ugly statue and doesn't belong in the beautiful, peaceful sunken gardens that already was designed around different ideas. Here is a perfect example of your bullshit spin on the facts.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Boy, I sense much bitterness here on this blog. I hear many conspiracy theorists spouting accusation after accusation, but that's understandable considering the keepers of this blog are CT's themselves. Please provide facts along with your accusations. Here is a fact: Since Beraud and Brennler have been elected by a minority of Atascadero's population, almost NOTHING positive has gotten started. The one exception is the Veteran's Memorial, which Beraud voted against. She also voted against the ultimate survey . . . a vote by the entire populace of Atascadero to see if a big box ordinance is really wanted here. She also voted for the creek setback. I'll give Luna one thing- at least he is somewhat responsive to the ENTIRE citezenry, unlike the Bearaud. Beraud is doing Atascadero a DISSERVICE by not taking into consideration the wishes of the majority, as evidenced by her recent vote to adopt the ASI. My prediction is she will be the next to go!

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Let’s not forget that firefighters wife, Mary White(?). She took the podium assuming to expound what she thought was such cleaver sarcasm but in reality, her nauseating mouth was only superceeded by the material caught in the crack of her wiggling butt as she walked away.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Lets make some of those lies come true for them. Public Trails along the creek side.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

It's true that Ray, Mike, Cheryle, Susie and Al created outright lie after lie after lie. They just made it all up as they went along. It was like watching a computer caught in a loop that wouldn't except any information. We should all see to it that something like this never happends again. What they did at City Council meetings was sick and at everyones expense. I taped many of the CC meetings. We never should have had to put up with them or that obnoxious wana be clown Constantine Santos.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

I will never think well of Tom O'Malley, Jerry Clay and their nasty, sociopathic friends. The damage has been done.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Sorry to see George and Mike leaving. Thank you for caring about our city. I for one know you were there to help make a difference. You are trully two honorable, sincere gentlemen.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Atascadero needs a new city manager too. Maybe George, Mike and Ellen will get rid of him for us before the election.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

It is the Chamber of Commerce that made Gearhart the "Atascadero man of the year". Joanne Main is another part of the "puppet gang". Geez Atascadero needs help and a new chamber president is part of it.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Roberta ia actually a darn good planning commissioner. It's too bad Al Fonzi is such a screw up. I fear that if I were to vote for Roberta it trully would be a Fonzi & Fonzi vote. I hear Jerry Clay plans to run again. He should step down. He really doesn't have the education and memory to provide the direction that is so important to the cities survival. Jerry is lost somewhere in the buddy system where, its understandable in his case.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

You have to wonder about a city that makes a scum bag like Kelly Gearhart man of the year.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Roberta Fonzi will run for City Council this year. Keep in mind that AL Fonzi has been her mouth piece while she had tried to play it safe on both sides of the coin. Take a look at the things Al has spouted at CC meetings and his posturing. He has been a part of the problem and not the solution. He has intentionally disrupted in an effort to cause discontent and adversity and been a part of the puppet gang (ABA). Anyone voting for her will be voting for Fonzi & Fonzi. Al Fonzi has also been doing Kurt Stone's bidding, another Big Time GOB.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Atascadero incorporated 25 years too early. It's a buch of SLO wannabes that could only afford to live in a mudhole.

They deserve everything they have brought on themselves.

The Tinman got a brain…maybe Atascadero will eb a real city one day.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

What did Mike say he would do? Destroy the City?

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Yet more funny tales of corruption from our inbred, mongoloid brethren oop nort. How many times have we seen resignations and promises to vacate just prior to criminal indictments?

The good news is that this opens up new opportunities for two of North County’s finest, all of whom are blood relatives and can trace their genetic origins back to an early study of orangutan obesity.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

You have both done a great job. I'm surprised that George worked for us as long as he did. There were times when without George Atascadero would have been in deep trouble. I remember when George was the only one who understood what was actually going on. They other CC actually would ask George the rules and then figure out how to get around them. It was frustrating for so many of us. George has been the rock of the CC and it will be a sad day without him. Mike has done what he promised to do and I'm sorry that he won't be staying longer.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Thank you George and Mike for your dedication. George, you have faced a brick wall at about every turn and yet you kept "plugging along". Be proud of your accomplishments. Mike – keep the faith and remember, you did what you said you would do. Now, take the wife to dinner…..

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

oh brother. What will you do insider? Perhaps you could continue your nasty, disagreeable comments on this website. Of course, doing something constructive like working with the elderly, homeless or illiterate would be quite a stretch for that small mind of yours. Try broadening your horizons a bit and take a break from your little angry self.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

It is amazing that so many posts appear during "normal work" hours. Oh, but wait, that doesn't apply to government employees……..

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Rumor is Oppose WalMart wants to put up its own canidates and will not support canidates that will not vote thier way down the line. Without that base it would be a nasty campaign for Brennler in particular. That was the base that elected him in the first place. Oh what do I do?

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

It's good that you've been storing the IP info for us. Insider will be first on the list.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

to Not Greedy, Truthbeknown and least of them all, Insider: Mike, Cheryl, Ray, Susie. You have all won your little battle of who you want in power. Unfortunately, you will reap what you sow and therefore, after November, we will see who you can now denigrate amd harrass on line. Without pissants like you, gosh, life would just be plain – wonderful?!

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Thank You George and Mike. I don't know what to say. George has served us so many years and I know it appears to have been such a thankless job. Many of us thank you, I thank you both.

God Bless You Both

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

You flatter me.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Sorry, I was so incensed when I placed my post that I failed to let you all know that I was addressing insider.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Its a pretty safe bet no one at the City took kickbacks from Gearhart. What is more interesting will be to see what role Brennler ultimately played in any misuse of funds that may have taken place in the Gearhart/Hurst thing when Brennler applied all that presure on Gearhart forcing him to come up with money he apparently didn't have. Although many have lost money on that deal it appears the funds the City got that time came at the expense of others.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

You are a joke. No one takes anything you have to say seriuosly. You are clearly Jacson, or Buban or Anderson or Fonzi. You sound just like them. Your spin is hysterical. It doesn't work around here.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

It is a pretty safe bet that Brennler and Luna didn't take illegal kickbacks from Kelly Gearhart et al. With all the turmoil going on about Hurst, Gearhart, and their ilk I'll bet their are those in Atascadero government shaking in their boots.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Brennler has almost single handed distroyed Atascadero and will now take a powder before everyone figures it out. There is no public access to the creeks no matter how many times you say it. If you think so why don't you just walk on in. You might want to take your bullet proof vest. If you don't have one you can borrow from Brennler. I would assume the Grand Jury is taking a look at Brennlers activities since his arrival on the scene. Anyone in a public possition that thinks he's so above the law as Brennler does deserves a good investigation like he likes to put on everyone else. You don't think the FBI arrived uninvited do you?

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Public trails were never on the agenda until certain troublemakers decided to manufacture the idea to attack Mike and Ellen. The fact is that the land that abuts the creek side is piblic not private and now the trails are going to be on the agenda and they will stay there until the public gets them. Thats a promise. You can all thank the ABA (aka A Better Atascadero)-look them up,for the great idea and it is a great idea. We all need the tourist draw.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

So in short everything you say Mike did possitive involves fighting with people, turning people into the authorities and being generally involved in numerous disbutes and bickering amongst citizens and council members and as to George he had enough common sense to tag along with O'Malley on several possitive efforts for the City after opposing them most of the way. I would say thats pretty accurate. You did forget Mikes last police state antics when he dirrected an APD officer to threaten a Citizen with removal from Chambers because he didn't like the look on his face.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

This is true. I think Mike knows a lot more than he was able to reveal as a council member. Good Luck GOB's. Maybe Mike isn't going to run again so that he can take the gloves off. O'Malley, get ready for a knock out!! No one deserves it more than you.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Foot traffic keeps a trail maintained. There is no private property that abutts the creeks. Every water way in Atascadero has set backs that were created back to the original maps in the 1920's. We need trails to attrack tourists who would like to take a day to enjoy nature.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

This is a very sad day for A-Town. Thank you Mike. Thank you George.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Mike and Ellen were responsible for televising the PC and CC meetings so that the public could stay informed. Funny that O'Malley didn't want the Campaign Finance meeting televised and then his friends caused all the disruption and O'Malley tried to take Mike outside! Then the disruptors, Anderson,Buban, Jackson, Burback and Al Fonzi tried to say that Mike provoked it despite the fact that there were witnesses and a tape. Mike also exposed Kelly Gearhart and it turned out that Kelly had bilked people all over the county and is now going to be charged. Mike also informed the city attorney that the public had to be made aware of the FBI investigation. Mike agreed to send the ASI to a public vote and conducted himself like a professional gentlemen against all adversity and vicious unwarranted attacks and accusations. Mike did a great job considering the circumstances and would have done plenty for us if he could have been allowed to do his job. Like wise Ellen has kept her promises and George in his 2 decades has done more than can fill this site. In fact just look at everything possitive thing that O'Malley claims he did and stick the name Luna on it.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

to the trail blaizers

You already have thousands of miles of public trails out there that we can't take care of now. You know them there 3" of AC over 8" of class C base. Many of these trails run adjacent to the creeks you want to impact. The difference is using this existing trail system creates no greater impact on the environment. Lets take proper care of our existing system before distroying our creekside banks. Untill we can fund and maintain our existing road system we have no business funding additional feel good projects in the City.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

If brennler becomes a community activist (we all know he is not going away)He will not be limited by council rules.

When the gloves come off, the GOB's will wish he was still on the council.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

As a local realtor, I take umbrage at LOL's statement regarding the firemen and realtors, "All of them greed driven" and the calling of names, i.e. "the idiot ABA".

It appears if anyone disagrees with LOL's view, they're to be demeaned, disparaged and maligned.

I've watched the friction within our city grow to frightening heights during the time Beraud, Brennler and Luna have had the majority control of the counsel.

Trails are not a tourist draw. They would be enjoyed by some, but the maintenance cost has still not been addressed. And if trails are on only pubic land, they will be piece-meal, starting and ending when public land comes in contact with private land.

Hopefully Luna's and Brennler's successors will be less agenda-driven and make their decisions based more on what is best for the community.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

The elections are going to be very interesting. I'll be offering my free services to investigate anyone backed by this Buban/Jackson band of personal interest puppets.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

To all you trailheads that think you deserve public trails through private land: You DESERVE nothing! Your attitude displays a nonsensical sense of entitlement. Why do you want to violate the rights of others so you can walk on their land? Are you paying taxes on it? Do you own it? No, You don't deserve anything!

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

I take it back Mike did chase George out of his City Council seat with the FBI hot on his tail if I am to believe you all.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Mike and George,

Thanks for all you did for us. It was quite a sacrifice and there are many of us who appreciate you.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Have any of you idiots driven downtown lately. At least if we had some drug dealers and prostitutes there would be some activity. Thank you George, Mike, and Ellen you have done a wonderful job. Oh how we all love you.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

You and your syncophant friends caused nothing but major distruption from the very beginning. We all know it and you can bet that what went around is going to come around. Good Luck, I'm sure that the FBI will end up running out your friends Clay and O'Malley who encouraged all the discord. Mike and George might be leaving but the FBI has their eye on you screw ups.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Now the idiot ABA will have something real to complain about. Don't forget that the fire fighters were in on this and so were many realtors. All of them greed driven.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Mike, Ellen, and George have had full controll of the CC for 2 solid years now. Name one possitive thing they have accomplished. For once and all I am not one of the usual group of suspects.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Yes, I vote yes. I will demand public trails from out next council. The public lands belong to all of us.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

You can bet we are all going to enjoy giving people like you the same treatment that the GOB's gave the good citizens. Hello there Mr. Jackson aka insider.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

I will also lobby for public trails. I would like to thank Mr. Buban, Jackson and Ms. Burbach for bringing the idea of the trails forward. No one would have thought of how much we were all missing out on without them. I'm sure our new CC will be having hearings on the idea. I can guarantee it.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

I just hope WalMart has left enough room on that site plan to get those two restaurants back in the plan at a future date. As to George and Mike they couldn't do much more damage to the City with another term than they have already accomplished. Why not just sit back and enjoy.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

I have no doubt Roberta Fonzi will run. Too bad the bahavior of Al has done so much to discredit her.Every time I listen to Al open his mouth I want to vomit.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Lets go for it. The land along the river belongs to the citizens. I would love to take a nice long walk along a cool trail and have a "picnic":)

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

George and Mike would have been re-elected. George won the last election by a land slide vote far above and beyond the votes of Clay or Scalise. Mike has been gaining in popularity the whole way and would also have won by a land slide. I don't blame George and Mike for not running again. It's not that they couldn't win, it's that they didn't want to.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Luna was never a part of the "special interest" majority council until the last election. Get honest or get the hell out of Atascadero.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

No doubt he will go to Atascadero's new Walmart for decorations

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Atascadero needs tourist revenue. We deserve to have public trails along the river which is one of our greatest assets here. We could use a little bit of winery attractions too. All it takes is a couple of award winning wines to bring in the tourists as a stop over. I will be lobbying for public trails on public property. I'll be waving to Mr Jackson and Buban as I walk by their property. Just watch me.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

This is sad news indeed. I was was going to so much enjoy Smokey the Bear Brennler get handily defeated, but perhaps he saw the writing on the wall. Luna is quick to blame the other side for the state of Atascadero, but since he's been on the council and planning commission 20 years, he only needs to look in the mirror to find the reason Atascadero's business sector is in the state it's in.

Dear Mike and George,

Thank You for all you have done and tried to do for the citizens of Atascadero. It will be very difficult to replace you. I appreciate your integrity, genuine concern and all the hard work you have put forth. You will be missed by so many of us.

It will be a challenge for Atascadero voters find a candidate with Mike's dedication and integrity.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

The "Good Ole' Boy's" won't be taking over this town again. In the last two years they have done everything possible to disrupt our City Council and done more damage trying to regain control than was done in the last ten years. To Hell with them and I hold O'Malley and Clay responsible for encouraging the discord.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

You did what you could brother Mike.

You have made a difference.

Let's go to Ireland next year!

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

At least Kelly Gearhart won't be around to get anymore special deals when the Good Ole Boy's take control of the council again.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Considering that O'Malley and Clay along with their friends from the Wal-Mart backed ABA have been successful in blocking the issue of Campaign Finance Reform. This means Wal-Mart will pour thousands of dollars into the next election and run their own candidates with hidden agenda's. Beware Atascaderans.

By: Anonymous on 8/1/08

Oh no, this is very serious.

I don't know what to say. I'm so saddened but I don't blame them for not running again. I remember seeing Mike out in front of Food for Less standing up for himself against the rediculous recall. He was exhausted and had just won the election. After watching what was done to Mike and Ellen who in their right mind would want to run?

Dear Mr.Ray Buban, Mike Jackson, Cheryl Burbach and Susie Anderson,

Go ahead and rejoice for now. Just remember that , what goes around comes around. I can't wait for you to identify the candidates that you will be backing. The people of this town can repair the damage you selfish, rude, offensive, mealy mouthed, sycophants have caused.

I'm sure the good Ole Boys are having a party right now. I can't see why anyone would want to serve the citizens of Atascadero after the cruel abuse that our current elected officials Like George, Mike and Ellen have been subjected to.
