A multi-agency task force is investigating a subcontractor with the California Men’s Colony after discovering videos of the man having sexual relations with both a child and his dog, sources said.
Suspecting the 49-year-old plumber of marijuana, narcotics, and cell phone smuggling, investigators from the California Department of Corrections Office of Internal Affairs obtained a search warrant for Bradley Brainard’s home and vehicle, sources said. On March 26, investigators entered the unsuspecting man’s home in Atascadero while he was working at the prison. Inside the home, investigators discovered several pounds of marijuana, along with videos of the man sexually assaulting a child, and also his dog, sources said.
“He was arrested March 26,” said California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Spokesperson Terry Thorton. “It was the result of a joint task force operation that included the San Luis Obispo County Narcotics Task Force, San Luis Obispo County Sheriffs Department, the California Highway Patrol Air Unit, the California Men’s Colony, and the Department of Corrections Office of Internal Affairs. Brainard was arrested and charged with felony trafficking of narcotics into a state prison. Our investigation is still ongoing.”
Atascadero Police Detective Rochelle Hanson has joined the probe and is working the beastiality and child porn investigation. She has not returned requests for comment.
Brainard, an employee of Inmate Day Labor working at the prison on a current project, posted a $25,000 bond and was released from jail on April 6. He is scheduled for a pre-preliminary hearing in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court on April 20 at 8:30 a.m. regarding seven counts related to drug transportation, sales, and trafficking at a state prison.
The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s (DA) office has not assigned a prosecutor to the case at this time, said a DA receptionist when asked which deptuty DA could answer questions regarding the case.
