Deputies break up cock fight in Arroyo Grande
January 31, 2010
Acting on a tip, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies broke up a cock fight in Arroyo Grande Sunday morning, involving as many as 300 people.
As officers arrived at 2109 Heidl Place around 10 a.m., the spectators began running away, hopping fences, and disappearing into nearby eucalyptus groves. Police were able to arrest 50 people and expect further arrests to be made.
Police believe Raymond Pinon Guterrez organized the event. Guterrez and the others were booked into County Jail on charges of animal cruelty. Officers also seized thousands of dollars in cash and dozens of birds.
