Arroyo Grande woman wins $10,000 in radio contest

An Arroyo Grande woman won $10,000 Saturday afternoon in the “Break the Bank” contest sponsored by El Dorado Broadcasters.
Arica Cain stunned the assembled crowd in the Harley Davidson showroom in Santa Maria when she won the cash prize within ten minutes of the contest beginning. Finalists had all qualified by calling in to El Dorado radio stations during the last few weeks.
On Saturday, the finalists were assigned numbers and brought up to the stage, one at a time, and asked to grab a small piggy bank from the pile before breaking it open. A check for $10,000 had been placed inside one of the banks.
Cain was just the eighth finalist to try. She smashed open her piggy bank and found the yellow check inside.
“I’m extremely excitedly. Totally overwhelmed. I can’t believe it,” Cain said afterwards. “My Mom thought I was crazy for trying.”
Cain said she would use the money to help pay down her student loans.
El Dorado Broadcasters owns four radio stations in San Luis Obispo, including Cat Country 96.1, KSTT 101.3 FM, New Rock 107.3, and KVEC News/Talk 920 AM.
