A black bear was spotted on Sunday morning in a man’s backyard on Palm Court in Arroyo Grande. [KSBY]

At about 5:30 a.m., a man checking on a barking dog came face to face with what appeared to be a 120 pound black bear. The bear hopped a fence and went on his way.

Arroyo Grande Police said the bear was most likely searching for water in a nearby creek. Officials trailed the bear through at least five backyards before the bear found his way to the creek.

Happens every year up here in the north county. They are coming into the suburbs for water.

Theysometimes wander accross 101 and get killed, that is why Caltrans is supposed to be buiding a bear proof fence from Cuesta Grade down to the town of Santa Margarita.

120 pounds? Sounds like this one was a baby, since adult black bears run from 200-600 pounds according to National Geographic.

the bear is lucky this wasn’t SLO. The cops there tend to shoot such animals when they wander into town like they did to that cougar they caught in someone’s backyard a few months ago.
