Firefighters from the Five Cities Fire Authority suspect the fire started in a pile of old electronics behind the hands on learning center at around 11 a.m. today. Crews were able to contain the fire to the back of the center and a small portion of the smaller building’s roof.

The center was closed when the fire started. Even though the fire never touched the Exploration Station building, firefighters said there is likely some smoke and water damage to the inside of the building.

An arson investigator is looking into the cause of the fire.
