Arroyo Grande sets special meeting to discuss Courtland project
May 31, 2011
Arroyo Grande city officials have scheduled a special City Council and Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday to discuss the controversial Courtland Project.
During the special meeting, developer Nick Tompkins will have an opportunity to present several development proposals for his four-acre parcel on the corner of Courtland Avenue and East Grand Avenue. In addition, city officials and the public will be given an opportunity to ask questions and comment on the proposals.
In March, following an outpouring of criticism by the public and several neighboring business owners, Tompkins requested that his proposal to build a shopping center anchored by a grocery store be sent back to the drawing board.
“I think it was clear that a majority felt the project wasn’t right for the community,” Tompkins said in March. “There were local business that felt threatened. Let’s stop and take a look.”
