Morro Bay man arrested for rape

Deputies arrested a Morro Bay man on Thursday for allegedly raping a local woman at a Cambria park last week.

Following an interview on Thursday, detectives from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) unit took Hans Tell Steinmann, 45, into custody for the alleged sexual assault on a local woman at Shamel Park on August 5 at 10 p.m.

The victim was an acquaintance of Steinmann, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

“Date rape assault is an under reported crime and detectives are urging anyone who has had contact with this suspect to contact Sheriff’s SAFE team detectives,” Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Rob Bryn said in a statement.

Deputies booked Steinmann into San Luis Obispo County Jail on rape by force charges.

Well, I am not going to blame the ‘victim’… but it’ll be interesting how this unfolds. Either way, Mr. Hans Steinmann, what were you thinking?

I’m hearing that this guy is a local contractor and married with children! Somehow the idea of a date rape just doesn’t add up. Think about it, the victim was an acquaintance and out in the park with him alone at 10PM, that sounds like a date walk. Then he rapes her, knowing that she can identify him?


This doesn’t seem to add up, young boy’s usually commit date rape not men his age. I think we will be hearing more about this story, like maybe they had sex and then he told her that he had to get home to his wife and she said “wife, what wife!!” , just saying. I could be wrong but something here doesn’t sound right, not if he is a well known contractor in the area. Sounds more to me like he is a cheating husband that took advantage of the wrong girlfriend.
