Salinas police first arrested Gilbert Olivares, 34, last week after a student’s relatives told police they saw “some suspicious messaging” on Facebook between Olivares and a student. He was charged with eight counts of contact with a minor with sexual intent, three counts of lewd acts with a child and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He then bailed out of jail.

Shortly thereafter, detectives examining his school computer discovered 14 videos showing students engaging in sexual activity. Police said it appeared Olivares was not in his office when the videos were taken.

Salinas police Sgt. Chris Lane told the Monterey Herald computer forensic experts plan to spend “weeks” combing through thousands of files on four computers used by Olivares.

“We’re only at one of them now,” Lane told the Herald. “There’s thousands of files within that computer, and we’re only in the hundreds.”
