Just an update from another news source. The cyclist appears to have been an anesthesiologist at Sierra Vista. My sympathies to his family and friends.

I don’t know if the information is final but someone said that he passed through a stop sign into the path of a truck beginning to accelerate onto the S. Higuera on-ramp to 101. My sympathies also go to the truck driver who hit him without being at fault.

I hope some of my fellow cyclists learn from this that there are reasons for us to obey traffic laws too. If you develop bad habits like ignoring signs and rules because you trust your judgment more, all it takes is one moment of inattention to put you in a coma or a casket.
