Twin sea otters born in Morro Bay
July 1, 2013
A sea otter in Morro Bay gave birth to rare twin pups about a week ago bringing researchers and photographers to Morro Rock. [Wired]
The mom and siblings can be seen floating near a kelp bed by Morro Rock. The twins alternate from floating around on their mom’s belly to occasionally floating beside her.
It is expected that the mother will soon abandon one of pups because of the difficulties in taking care of two baby otters. The first twin sea otters were discovered in 1986.
Photographer and state park docent Mike Baird took the photo of the otter family from the shore near Target Rock.
