KCOY-TV consolidating with NPG

September 29, 2013

kcoy1The News-Press & Gazette, the company that purchased KEYT in Nov. 2012, is taking over KCOY’s news operation. This will leave KSBY as the only local station without NPG produced news content. [PacificCoastBusinessTimes]

Because of regulatory constraints, Cowles Media will continue to own KCOY and oversee the stations sales and management teams.

However, under a shared services agreement, NPG will take over news and backroom operations.

Jim Byrne was my favorite weather guy for years. He was an excellent meteorologist and I haven’t watched KCOY since they canned him.

Drifting towards one-source ‘news’ from “Grande Hermano”.

You mean like a “single viewer system” for the masses? Hmmmm….

Here’s hoping for better times in the KCOY newsroom. Management has been undermining morale and the news department’s ability to do its job for years. The only good thing it has

done, so far as I can tell, was to yank a former executive producer from her position. Then

Cowles comes along and eviscerates the department altogether. I for one will be

interested to see how it goes.
