Morro Bay rodeo legend dies at 81

John W. Jones Sr., Morro Bay rancher and world champion rodeo man, died Sunday at 81-years-old.
With four world champions among his many rodeo titles, Jones was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1979. He “may have won more world championships, but he didn’t like to travel and didn’t seriously pursue gold buckles, according to the ProRodeo website.
Jones’ son, John W. Jones Jr., followed in his father’s footsteps winning three world championships followed by an induction into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1996.
Jones Sr. is survived by his wife JoAnn Jones, daughter Sandra Eddleman, son John Jones Jr. and three grandchildren.
