Morro Bay hires interim city manager

January 31, 2014

morro bay plantThe Morro Bay City Council has hired an interim city manager at $13,000 per month.

The council appointed former Beverly Hills city manager Ed Kreins to succeed Administrative Services Director Susan Slayton in bridging the gap between Andrea Lueker, who resigned from the position earlier this month, and a permanent replacement. Slayton has served as acting city manager since Lueker’s departure.

Kreins served as city manager of Beverly Hills for 11 years. Prior to that, he served as police chief of Sausalito.

Since his retirement, Kreins has served as interim city manager for six cities, including Pismo Beach. He also served as interim general manager of the Nipomo Community Services District.

“I am pleased in the council’s confidence in appointing me interim city manager and am looking forward to working with the mayor, council members and city staff,” Kreins said in a city news release.

Kreins is expected to begin work in Morro Bay in early February.

Morro Bay currently has an interim city attorney, as well. Lueker and former city attorney Rob Schultz both resigned after Mayor Jamie Irons called for their firing.

$13,000 a month; if one were to divide that out, it equals to $3250. a week, and assuming a forty hour work week, that is over $80.00 an hour (which is more than a dollar a minute). I worked in retail for over 35 years, I don’t have any college degrees, and I also ran a small business for 15 years- I just don’t understand how it is that people can be paid salaries like this and honestly believe that they are worth that much money. Wow.

And City Council and the mayor thinks that hiring from the same barrel and from the bottom will improve things. He hired this POS because he is Katie Litchig’s friend – get ready employees of MB – the abuse will begin,

The employees might be able to get ready if there were any left. Check out the number of employees that have left since September 12th, amazing.

If they left it was most likely since they were part of the problem but could not get the sweetheart deals that the two bigwigs received.

Welcome, Mr. Kreins.

mabye all this complaining about his age explains why Cal Poly kids always get hired before me when I apply for a job in MB.

And on another Morro Bay issue….(Water Shortage/Crisis):

Attention City of Morro Bay….PLEASE notify that business woman on the Embarcadero who DAILY hoses down the whole surrounding courtyard and front sidewalks EVERY morning to cease this activity. I’ve been witnessing this every morning that I walk down there. It’s the business just North of Dolphin Shirt Co.

And once again today Saturday….the whole area hosed down again! I suggest someone go notify her to cease & desist. (8 am or so)

Would that be the fish loading area that she is hosing off.

She hoses the entire courtyard….not sure about fish loading area…but she hoses all over and in front of her (?) building…..sidewalk is saturated runoff into the street….and if you’re real lucky, you have her whisking the hose about when you are trying to work your way down the sidewalk. And this is DAILY.

I would guess thats because you haven’t paid attention to what is being done there, most all of that courtyard is the fish loading area, the forklift runs over most all of that to move bins around.

I would take a good hard look at the candy store. Candy people are known water-wasters.

I looked today at what you are talking about. I see the loading area….(and actually saw a truck loading. BUT there is a concrete wall separating that area from her area. She is hosing down all around her picnic tables…planters….and out in front of the building on the public sidewalk from the bay side patio area all the way to the street. Normally in good water times I suppose it’s a nice thing to do….BUT we are in a critical water shortage time….and hosing down sidewalks is not supposed to be happening….just saying & observing. According to the new restrictions from the City of Morro Bay “No potable water may be used for cleaning or rinsing docks, boats and other marine facilities, or driveways, patios, parking lots, sidewalks and other paved surfaces.”

WOW, thus guy sounds amazing. I was particularly impressed with this text in the article you cite

“The 6-foot-4 Kreins began his 24-year police career as an officer in Hayward and ended up as the Beverly Hills police chief.Kreins was chief there in 1979 when thousands of angry Iranian demonstrators set three homes on fire and charged the house of the Shah’s mother and sister.”It was pretty hairy,” Kreins said. With only 26 officers and a few guards assigned from the U.S. State Department, Kreins thwarted the attackers, some armed with guns, until backup arrived from Los Angeles.Kreins was appointed Beverly Hills’ city manager within a year of that incident. He inherited a city with deficit spending in the millions, but soon put the ledger books into black ink.”

i wonder if he aver arrested mels gibson

So he’s 79. He’s 29 years older than the City of Morro Bay.

which is worth mentioning because……

So, among his numerous accomplishments, while with the Beverly Hills Police Department, he held off thousands of demonstrators “with only 26 officers and a few guards assigned from the U.S. State Department…. until backup arrived from Los Angeles.”. He took on the management of the City of Beverly Hills when it had “deficit spending in the millions”, but “soon put the ledger books into black ink” – and that second accomplishment appears to have been during his FIRST city manager job.

He sounds to me like a tough, smart man who gets a lot done with minimal resources, and who knows how to get a city on the right financial road. That’s what we need in Morro Bay, Do any of you still really think this guy only got the job because he once worked in a city that Monica Irons once worked in?

HE Could do riot control if the homeless ever get out of control over by Albertsons. i doubt Luker could have done that.

Is it true that this new interim City Manager whose supposed to lead us into the future with fresh ideas is 78 years old?

Taxpayer, that’s bad even for you. What makes you think that a person that age cannot have any new ideas? I have known people in their 90’s who are more open-minded and forward-thinking than the average 30-year-old.

Beyond that, because older workers have at least as much to contribute as younger ones, and because unfortunately, prejudice like yours exists, there are laws against age discrimination. Here are a few quotes from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Please take heed of the last item:

“Age discrimination involves treating someone (an applicant or employee) less favorably because of his age.”

“The law forbids discrimination when it comes to any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, fringe benefits, and any other term or condition of employment.”

“It is unlawful to harass a person because of his or her age.

Harassment can include, for example, offensive remarks about a person’s age. Although the law doesn’t prohibit simple teasing, offhand comments, or isolated incidents that aren’t very serious, harassment is illegal when it is so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile or offensive work environment or when it results in an adverse employment decision (such as the victim being fired or demoted).

The harasser can be the victim’s supervisor, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, or someone who is not an employee of the employer, such as a client or customer.”

Not all people think they have to go by them laws. Not pointing any fingers, waterfronters.

You harassed the former City Manager and City Attorney and made false accusations about them that were proven to be untrue.

You just harassed mbactivist1 and made a false accusation about him/her that is untrue.

KR, surely you can find someone to snip at in SLO, leave MB to its own snippy crones…SLO needs you!

How was it possible that Nancy Johnson would just shut up and vote on this? Or did she?

She talks way to much!! and rudely
