Capps to speak out about Isla Vista rampage

Congresswoman Lois Capps is collaborating with several local and state officials to discuss action taking place in response to the May Isla Vista shooting and stabbing rampage that left seven college students dead.

Capps is hosting a press conference at 11 a.m. Monday at Walter Capps Park in Isla Vista. Attendees will include State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, Assemblyman Das Williams and Santa Barbara County Supervisor Dorreen Farr and District Attorney Joyce Dudley. UCSB student representatives will also participate.

Both Capps and Jackson have introduced new gun control bills in response to May’s rampage.

“We have joined together in a powerful way to say that not one more act should be tolerated,” Capps said in a press release. “From student leaders to local, state and federal officials, we need to continue working together on common sense, reasonable solutions to combat violence in our community and our nation.”

Hanna Beth Jackson displayed her own abundance of stupidity when she introduced gun control measure SB 567. Gov. Brown ultimately vetoed this laughable bill based upon on the stupidity of its contents.

Have many (or any) of these been used in crimes in CA in the past 100 years, Hanna Beth?

I wonder if this wasted paycheck will once again try to blame guns for the deeds of a deranged killer? I wonder if she will ignore the fact that the killer also used a knife/machete and an automobile to take the lives of innocent people?


The killer followed all the worthless CA gun control laws. He paid for, took and passed a CA Handgun Safety Certificate test. He paid for and passed National Instant Criminal Background Check System tests (one for each of his firearms) administered by the FBI via the CA DOJ. He legally purchased only firearms that were on the CA Handgun Roster. He waited 10 days to pick up his firearms in each case. Only low-capacity CA-approved ammunition magazines were in his possession. All worthless laws.


Capps lied at the very beginning of her political career when she said she would serve her deceased husband’s term and that would be it. That was what, 20-25 years ago? Truly a wasted paycheck.

I am interested in hearing Lois speak…..can she still form coherent sentences? Will she be taking questions from the press or will she stand politely off to the side while others speak and take questions. Other than that it continues to be the same old democrat play book….blame guns and ignore any real interest in solving the problem.

And what does Lois, or any other politician know about mental health and people’s struggles to cope with the realities of life?


It takes nothing to say “we won’t tolerate this anymore”. You have to know something to prevent it from happening or reduce the incidence of it.


The Mental Health system is about medicating people, not helping them learn how to cope.

That might mean something if it translated to 16 years of independent thought,efforts, and votes… But since she has voted party-line for her entire career I would say that is 16 years of experience as a bureaucratic rubber stamp, and nothing more.

What about mental health initiatives Lois? As a trained health professional, I expected more from you than the “me too” charge against guns. You have become a pawn. Your moves are limited and predictable.

You are absolutely right. We need more mental illness medical research. We need answers to mental problems and real treatments.


Lois, your little gun bills that you hitched your reelection wagon to are practically worthless in California where the state bureaucracy cannot keep the Death register up to date and can’t keep the approved voter database up to date (in violation of federal law).
