L.A. lawyer under fire for editing herself into celebrity photos

State Bar Court Judge Donald F. Miles found that attorney Svitlana Sangary used deceptive advertising when she superimposed shots of herself with celebrities. After being warned by the State Bar, Sangary refused to take the photos down from her website for a period of about two years, court records indicate.

Sangary defended herself in what Miles described as “a 16-page soliloquy with little to no rational connection to the charges at hand.”

In the response to the charges, Sangary wrote that actress Natalie Portman was alleged to have lied about her performance in the film Black Swan. A ballet dancer from the film said that Portman’s head was superimposed on her body, Sangary wrote.

In Sangary’s photos, the attorney is also seen posing with Hillary Clinton, Paris Hilton and Joe Biden. She is accused of photoshopping about 50 pictures with A-list celebrities.

The court has recommended that Sangary be suspended for six months and placed on probation for three years. The State Supreme Court has the final say on the matter.

Out of a total of 435 U.S. Representatives and 100 Senators (535 total in Congress), lawyers comprise the biggest voting block of one type, making up 43% of Congress. Sixty percent of the U.S. Senate is lawyers.


Enough said. 37.2% of the House of Representatives are lawyers.

I agree. I am disappointed that the state bar didn’t make a stipulation that she attend a set number of psychotherapy session before she could start practicing again.


With her obvious lack of boundaries, can you imagine what kind of attorney service she is providing to her clients?!? I would be concerned about the possibility of financial improprieties.

The tip of the iceberg, this one got caught.


I’m a failed Real Estate Agent (I’m honest) and held a California Real estate License for

eight years. The requirements for a Real Estate credential are much less then passing the Bar and becoming a Lawyer. As I recall ethics (relative) and mental competency (pass “public” inspection) were requirements just for a Sales License, this Lawyer apparently lacks ethics, integrity, and mental competency.


In the whole scheme of things yes it’s small potatoes, but it is illustrative of the kind of deceit and corruption that permeates the Culture at all levels and there is a State License involved. Makes me wonder about how she ever got her College Degree? made it through Law School? passed the Bar?, got personal references vouching for her Integrity? and perhaps? judging by her name got into the Country in the first place?. Hopefully, I’m not assuming to much?


These types of sleaze-bags distort and corrupt the systems, standards, and processes that are in place to such an extent that those who do play by the rules find themselves at a distinct disadvantage. That’s the big deal…Seriously.


Personally, I’m far from perfect, but I’m not rotten to the core and can distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil. Some of you can keep your Mac Mansions etc.

I feel your pain Dirk, not saying its acceptable or even suggesting it. Just saying there are bigger and more important criminal activities to pursue out there. False advertising ranks beneath the radar when you consider every other kind of moral corruption and criminal activity going on out there. Hardly headline worthy was my main point.

Anyone that thinks someone is special or trustworthy because of who they have had their picture taken with shouldn’t be allowed to leave the house without a guardian.

WD, Yes I would agree with you that in the grand scheme of things, this may be small potatoes. But this blatant ignoring of knowing and being told to stop by authorities shows an arrogance of lawlessness. I have a professional license and have been self employed for 39 years. I would never consider promoting myself is such a way, never mind doing so after being warned not to do so by my state board.

Here is an example of a true story told to me many years ago by a friend who was in very high upper management of a large national corporation. He said that one Saturday, he went in to his office to work for a little while and discovered his personal secretary was there when he arrived. There was a stack of envelopes on her desk and she was putting stamps on all of her personal Christmas cards. What would you have said or done whatdouno? After all, with all the corruption and crime possible within this company, this is small potatoes- stealing postage. This action shows the character of the employee.If she is stealing stamps, what else is she stealing or would if she could? Ethics.

Just to finish the story, my friend fired her. As would have I. The state bar should at least suspend her license or dis-bar her. It won’t happen. A fine at best. As with my experiences of attorneys and doctors, the authorities over them will protect them and cover for them better than any union does for their members. Don’t worry Wd, Svitlana Sangary will be out there ready for you to hire her.
