The Cessna 140 aircraft took off from an airport near Hollister Saturday afternoon but failed to reach its destination. That evening a search began, and on Sunday morning, rescue workers located the wreckage in a remote area in the hills east of Gilroy.
Workers found at least one of the bodies in the wreckage. A man and a woman were on the plane.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash or when it occurred. The plane was flying to Watsonville, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Officers from the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA have arrived at the scene to investigate the crash.
