Six arrested at high school fight in Santa Maria

B21wePdIMAEua75A lunchtime cat fight between two female students at Righetti High School in Santa Maria led to multiple brawls, six arrests and the lockdown of a nearby school Wednesday. [KEYT]

Around 12:30 p.m., two female students began fighting in Righetti’s quad area, where about a thousand students were located for lunch. The fight morphed into a brawl, and then a second fight began, starting with two male students, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s deputy arrived and tried to break up the fighting, but the officer was attacked and had to call for backup. Other deputies then came to the scene, along with Santa Maria police, California Highway Patrol officers and Santa Barbara County firefighters.

During the melee, students threw food, some of which landed on a deputy’s uniform. A photo taken by a student showed a deputy covered in cafeteria cheese wrestling a student to the ground.

A cell phone video of the incident shows an officer striking a female student in the face and knocking her to the ground. A sheriff’s spokesperson says, though, it was done in self-defense.

The six students arrested face charges ranging from assault, to battery of a peace officer to possession of marijuana on school grounds. Officers arrested one student for possession of a knife.

A law enforcement helicopter flew above the school searching for other suspects.

During the incident, nearby Saint Joseph High School went into lockdown. Other neighboring schools did not.

Authorities say an investigation into the incident is ongoing and more arrests could come. Investigators still have yet to determine an initial cause of all of the fighting.

A thug, male or female is a thug, and should be put down without quarter. That said, with an administration that promotes and protects thuggery, it’s dicey business. (think Ferguson, Mo.). Good work officer, and a great left hook.

I don’t believe women assailants should be treated any better than male assailants…but I don’t agree with making such broad strokes like “an administration that promotes and protects thuggery.”

As we true Christians realize, these ungodly kids should die for their despicable actions, as our Hebrew God so states!

The security police officer that was engaged in knocking down the Sister of Eve as she attacked him, should use this passage in his defense; to wit: “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12) Key words; “many witnesses.”

Every one of those attacking the officer should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. That is mob violence and it is dangerous. Any more severe and he would have been justified in tasing, spraying, or worse.

Disgusting! As a parent, I am appalled! These are not children, these are young adults. And while chances are they are lacking the parental guidance department is pretty high, they are in high school! They have been taught how to behave in school even if it’s not reinforced at home. Any young adult-male or female who think that they can come at a peace officer is begging to be arrested. I hope they all get charged as adults and that they all get expelled.

Actually, with all of the “social justice” and “we are oppressed” sermons, some may be fuzzy on right vs wrong, so much of this is on the parents.

Schools don’t expel or suspend kids much anymore. An empty seat means less money.

This is the second “lockdown” this year in a suburban school, what is going on?


The community has invested a lot of money into this school, most all of the buildings have been upgraded or remodeled, there are plenty of activities for the kids and AP classes and sports.

As soon as a teen, woman or etc starts behaving like a criminal, they lose any consideration afforded to them as a teen, woman etc.


Kudos to the officer for doing his job.

But you know that this security officer will now feel the heat. These “still” photographs show him surrounded by 4 students, tow that appear to be attacking him.

Thanks for saying that.. very few times in my life Ive had to defend my self from a woman.. who came at me without any provocation.. and when I defended myself she couldnt believe it!! It was as if she expected to hit me and I would just stand there.. women need to know that those days are over.. if you act like a man…your gonna hit like a man would in the same situation..

As a woman, I have to say I agree. I wouldn’t ever expect to hit/assult anyone without them defending themselves. I understand the the idea of “never put your hands on a woman” but some females don’t act like women. That being said-violence is violence, is violence. No one should be touching anyone.

I hope I actually never ever have to defend myself against anyone.. I hate fighting..anyone actually.. but sometimes you dont have a choice.. and if it comes down to that.. male or female.. Im defending myself.

Looks like he quickly eliminated the thought of “should we jump the deputy”. I also liked how he never released his prisoner while body slamming the little girl who tried to bitch slap him. Keepin’ it classy year after year my Righetti people!
