Californians get 900 new laws

December 27, 2014

lawOn New Year’s Day California will have 900 new laws including one that allows drivers licenses for undocumented workers and several that help protect against online bullying.

Here are some of the new laws:

Law against posting private nude photos or videos online: Posting private nude photos or videos is now a misdemeanor. The law protects those who take nude selfies they intend to be private from distribution on the web.

Law against mug shot profiting: Posting a mug shot on line and then charging the person money to take it down will be a crime. Several commercial web sites game that a person’s embarrassment will get them to fork over anywhere from $300 to $800 to have it removed.

Paid sick leave: A new law now allows employees not currently offered sick leave to earn one hour for every 30 hours worked. California is the first state in the nation to require sick leave benefits.

Cell phone kill switches: All smartphones manufactured after July 1 and sold in California will be required to have a kill switch. If stolen or lost, the owner can activate the kill switch and render the phone inoperable.

Sexual assault at colleges and universities: During colleges and universities disciplinary hearings over allegations of sexual assault, the standard will move from did one party say no to did both parties say yes. The adoption of the new policy is required if campuses want to continue receiving state financial aid.

Groundwater basins: There are three new laws in California to begin regulation of the state’s groundwater basins. The laws require local agencies to create sustainable groundwater management plans.

Driver’s licenses for undocumented residents: A law passed in 2013, goes into effect Jan. 3 allowing undocumented people living in the United States to get a drivers license. The Department of Motor Vehicles is expecting approximately 1.4 million people to apply.

I’ve got a good idea for a new law; every time a new law is passed they have to get rid of an old one.

Every law passed either somehow further restricts your liberty, confiscates your property, or both. People who say the want government to “get things done” completely baffle me.

When you are passing laws to restrict speech to protect idiots who take nude pictures of themselves, that’s a nanny state.

Government has passed so many laws that complying with them all is impossible,so individuals can be cited at the will of the government for just about any excuse.. Is that what people want?

The biggest lie you will ever hear is for the government to insist convincing, “Trust me”

The biggest problem we have in this country is too much government, laws, regulations .

RONALD REGAN!

Ronald REAGAN built up the largest federal debt in history, over 2 trillion$. More than twice his predecessors !

Reagan was a fraud, a liar, and a cheat !

He stole from you and every American !

And your Messiah Barrack? All truth and honesty? One would think your diatribe against the 80’s would not be so profoundly skewed to ignore the fact Obama has gone far beyond the corruption of any previous President.

Correction:

One would think your diatribe against the 80’s would not be so profoundly skewed to ignore the fact Obama has gone far beyond the corruption of ALL previous Presidents combined!.

Regan by position is responsible but he himself did not!

That government but he himself did not!

I don’t think that’s the largest federal debt in history, if you will take a look at Obama’s debt for a moment please….

Slowerfaster is correct on this one. I mean, we all know, that they are ALL liars. and it’s kind of silly to force people into this corner. Nonetheless, like Clinton, with Reagan we have a record of serverl

That being said, Reagan was never TRULY President of the United States. George Bush Sr. was the man in charge and they let Reagan know that in no uncertain terms when the son of oilman John Hinckley, Sr. ( a close friend of Bush) put a bullet in him and then blamed it om his obsession with Jodie Foster.

Ha ha ha….

Until Obama that is….Obama is the King of Debt and stole the crown from Reagan.

Yet…like a good liberal you can’t admit to facts….

Why the pointless personal attack?

Less about each other.

A “personal attack” like calling someone (say, a president) a liar, thief and a cheat? Or do you have an official CCN policy on personal attacks?

With all the laws on the books – state, county, and city – we should be living in a utopian society, but we have just the opposite.

California started its slow slide into the dumper when re-apportionment of the State Senate districts (one person one vote) was mandated by the courts. That is when the more rural areas of the state lost any countervailing ability relative to the large population centers.

Further, the full time legislature (at one time it was part time) has an incentive to churn out laws regardless of need or merit in order to keep busy while pandering to their campaign contributors..

We need a State Constitutional Amendment requiring the repeal of an existing law before a new one can be put on the books.

the sweet and sour soup for the soul

maybe we could cut out the bills that went into effect last year?

Enacting 900 new laws is nothing more than rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic…while the band plays on.

Government is the enemy, and the enemy is YOU.

Congratulations …now kill yourself.

Once again you get wrong, there’s a big difference between we the government and a plundering bureaucracy.

No….sorry nice try.

The Government is not the public any longer like you learned in Civics 101…the voters have no say these days…its the Corrupt parties and lobiests that run the system now….we voters and people are just along for the ride.

EXCELLENT, ON TARGET, PRESENT DAY TRUTH & REALITY

Only the ignorant are now fooled by all their BS, especially the young

The Government is not the public any longer like you learned in Civics 101

It also makes me wander why so many parents are home schooling their kids nowadays.

900 More and yet….

The Golden State is circling the bowl….

While Brown and the Legislature fiddles.

What are the other 893 new laws?

A link would’ve been nice.
