Large boulder wreaks havoc on Highway 101
December 16, 2014
A large boulder fell on Highway 101 at the bottom of the Cuesta Grade causing several accidents and traffic backups in both the north and southbound lanes.
Shortly after 10 p.m., the boulder, about 5 feet by 5 feet across, fell into the middle of the southbound lane just north of Reservoir Canyon Road. A semi-truck swerved to miss the boulder and slid over to the middle median causing a large container to bounce out of the truck.
The container fell over the median spreading debris in the northbound lane.
Several southbound vehicles hit the boulder resulting in at least one person being injured and another trapped in a vehicle. Traffic was backed up for several hours.
