A motorcyclist died Monday afternoon in a head-on collision on Southbound Highway 41 near Morro Bay, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At about 3:36 p.m., the victim was riding at the back of a pack of motorcyclists near Bear Bridge Road when he collided with a red 2014 Toyota Prius, which was traveling in the opposite direction. The crash ejected the man from his motorcycle, and he died from injuries.
KSBY reports the victim was a 22-year-old man from Paso Robles.
CHP officers are investigating the crash and have yet to determine the cause. Neither alcohol, nor drugs are suspected as factors.
Authorities closed both the south and northbound lanes of Highway 41 for about two hours following the crash. CHP officials have yet to release the name of the victim.
A 51-year-old Paso Robles man also died in a crash on Sunday evening. Mark Steven Portney, 51, veered off Airport Road near Highway 46 and crashed into an oak tree.
Investigators have also yet to determine the cause of that crash.
