Arroyo Grande teacher accused of having sex with a student

An Arroyo Grande teacher was charged Tuesday with allegedly having sex with a student.

Prosecutors charged Tara Stumph, 36, with five offenses — intercourse with a minor, oral copulation of a minor and three counts of misdemeanor child molestation. The molestation allegedly occurred between Dec. 2014 and Dec. 2015, and the sexual acts took place in June 2015, according to the criminal complaint.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office filed the charges against Stumph more than eight months after law enforcement received a complaint about her alleged sexual relationship with a minor. [KSBY]

On Dec. 4, a school administrators informed the Arroyo Grande Police Department that they had received information that Stumph had engaged in sexual acts with an underage student.

Shortly after receiving the tip, school administrators placed Stumph on administrative leave. Lucia Mar officials recently said Stumph is no longer employed by the school district.

While at Arroyo Grande High School, Stumph taught culinary arts. In 2013, Stumph was named regional occupation program teacher of the year.

Stumph is married to a fireman and has multiple children.

A 36 year old women and a teacher was in love with him. His school work and his family relations must have suffered. Who knows how long this will affect his thinking and future judgement on sex and women. I’m sorry she is as guilty as the most disgusting male kid touching pervert we have read about. Leave the kids alone…that is all we ask. If she is guilty of this crime and escapes prison time we really have a justice problem in our nation.”

These two actually got married and had more children together. Doesn’t appear to affect his future to badly.

I guess my question is why do they start teaching sex education in sixth grade when your not supposed to do it till your 18? As a male, we are programmed to start “getting some” as soon and as often as we can once we hit puberty. Taking advantage of a girl under 18 is different than a guy imho. Guaranteed, the boy pursued this probably more than the teacher. If you can be tried as an adult under 18, you can surely make the decision to boink. Slam me all you perfect citizens.

You have an excellent point! The public school system (and democrats in general) are so eager to teach younger and younger kids about sex, but all of a sudden, it’s a sin and illegal?


I have always believed that the ultimate goal is child molestation. It is sick and these people need help, but as you so accurately pointed out, we have a society (pop culture, school, progressive politicians) who really want children to be “sexualized” as early as possible.


Along with the double-standard for boys vs. girls. I also noticed that when it is a female adult and male child, it is monogamous, while adult males often seek multiple victims (predatory).

The comments are interesting and tell us that male and female roles in society are still a fact of life in spite of feminist attempts to make “gender a social construct that must be broken down.”


As other commenters said, there is no real crime here. The teacher obviously did something which goes against the standards of the profession. The fact that her career is ruined is punishment enough.


For those whining about double standards when male teachers are charged and sentenced, well, men and women ARE different. Men are usually the pursuer in a relationship, even one as strange as a male student and female teacher.

A 17 year old is more of a man than a young boy. Only our strange society considers 17 year olds as boys and girls. In the past, 17 year olds were expected to be living independently of their parents.

Are you seriously comparing Tara Stumph to a sicko like Jason Porter who was involved in child porn and torturing puppies? This was a consensual relationship between an adult woman and a near adult man. Nuance and the uniqueness of each situation is lost on you.

The very “CHILD” victims who claimed they were abused by Jeffrey Epstein also conceded to procuring other minors for similar activities. So they may have been ‘victims’ – but they also would have been human traffickers. Yo! How is reality? Make sure you do not enter reality…. just sayin….

Lets be real here. Child molestation? A 17yr old male HS senior? Homie got lucky and went and bragged to his friends. All charges should be dropped and everyone should just calm down.

No. Disagree. Her conduct – if proven true – is completely unacceptable of a teaching professional. While a relationship with a willing 16 or 17 year old is certainly not the end of the world – it is 100% unacceptable for a teacher. She should be fired and lose her teaching credential. She should NOT, however, be subjected, to a tax payer funded term of incarceration and obliteration of her life as a sex offender. That is absurd. Yes, everyone should calm down in such event.


This is, of course, in the event she is found / pleads guilty to the charges.
